After much debate of where the Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.-Sebastian Zbik fight will take place, it looks like the City of Angels will host the world title bout. Zbik, an unbeaten middleweight world titleholder will defend his belt against Chavez on Saturday, June 4th in Los Angeles, CA. Top Rank Vice President of Boxing Operations Carl Moretti told Fightnews.com that the bout will either take place at the STAPLES Center or at Dodger Stadium, located just north of downtown Los Angeles. It would be the first time the 56,000 seat stadium, home to the Los Angeles Dodgers, would host professional boxing since Emile Griffith lost to Luis Manuel Rodriguez in June of 1963. “We will hope to finalize the deal at the end of the week,” said Moretti.
In his last bout in January, Chavez (42-0, 30 KO’s) won a 10 round unanimous decision over Billy Lyell. Zbik (30-0, 10 KO’s) successfully defended his title in July, winning a 12 round unanimous decision over Jorge Sebastian Heiland.
