Zeferino inks Rodriguez

In a move that is sure to shake up the heavyweight division in the United States, undefeated American heavyweight prospect David “Nino” Rodriguez (33-0, 31 KO’s) signed a promotional agreement with Zeferino Entertainment at a press conference in his home town of El Paso yesterday. The Mexican American bomber is widely seen as one of the most exciting, and marketable prospects in the division, but his career has been plagued with inactivity recently, with only six fights in the last two and a half years (all in Mexico). However, Rodriguez still possesses the most impressive record of any American heavyweight, and looks poised to move into the world rankings. This signing, coupled with Rodriguez kicking off his own promotional company, promises to revitalize his career and the heavyweight division.

“I felt it was time to take control of my career and start with a new and motivated team,” commented Rodriguez, “Zeferino is a young and up-and coming promoter and has presented a very honest and fair promotional agreement. And now I’ve started my promotional company, Nino Bravo Productions, and I plan to co-promote my fights with Zeferino.”

For Zef Ramirez, president of Zeferino Entertainment, this was also a golden opportunity to put America back on the map in the heavyweight division.

“I’m ecstatic about David fighting under the Zeferino banner,” commented Ramirez, “lately the heavyweight division has been dominated by Europeans, but now we have not only a great undefeated Mexican American fighter, but one with speed and power in both hands.”

David Rodriguez’ first fight under the Zeferino Entertainment banner is scheduled for February 18, 2011 in El Paso, Texas.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
