Former WBC flyweight challenger Xiong Zhao “Mini Mike Tyson” Zhong (13-3-1, 9 KOs) was impressive in stopping Thailand’s Herrio Patakom by third round knockout on Sunday at Kunming, China. Zhong extended WBC flyweight champion Faisuke Naito in 2009 losing via twelve round decision in Tokyo and is after another world title shot.
In a supporting bout at 130 pounds Xia Yu Qin (4-4-2) took seven rounds to KO a very tough Matsu Tomoya finishing with a terrific body blow. Qin lost in seven rounds to WBA rated featherweight Roy Muhklis in 2008.
The promoter of the event was Liu Gang of Zovi Boxing Promotions. Gang was 1992 Chinese Flyweight Barcelona Olympic representative). The Zovi Boxing Promotion hosted four WBC Asian International Championship fights and provided another great night of boxing, which is becoming more popular in China. The fights were partially sponsored by the China Sports Lottery. This was the first time the sports lottery was used to support professional boxing in China.
