Stomp in the Swamp IV Monday, May 28, 2007 Fight to the Finish Productions is back in 2007 with their fourth installment of "Stomp in the Swamp" fight series. "Stomp in the Swamp IV" will take place June 9, 2007 at the Youth Center in Cut Off, Louisiana. The main event will feature Louisiana state light heavyweight champion and Dulac, Louisiana's own "Smilin'" Martin Verdin (14-8-1). Verdin is a crowd favorite and has been featured numerous times by Fight to the Finish Productions, but this will be his first main event. In his last outing he lost a very close decision in a bout aired live on national television on ESPN 2's Friday Night Fights program. The main event is scheduled for 10 rounds and will be for the vacant NABC Gulf States Title. Verdin will face "Gentleman" James Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana. This will be the second time these two fighters do battle. In their first bout Verdin beat Johnson by split decision in a six round bout. Johnson is confident coming into this bout. In his last bout he held former IBF champion William Guthrie to a controversial draw. Johnson knocked down Guthrie in the bout. When James was asked about coming back down to Cut Off to fight Verdin he had this to say: "I've been waiting for this fight for two years. Last time I thought I won a close decision. I tried to box last time. This time I am going to bring the fight to Martin. This is going to be an old school brawl. I am going for the knockout". Verdin was originally scheduled to face former title challenger Will McIntyre in a bout for the Louisiana state title, but Will withdrew from the bout because of a death in his family. Fight to the Finish would like to send our prayers out to Will and his family. "Southern Pride" Gary Bergeron (4-1) of New Orleans, Louisiana, will be featured in a 6 round super lightweight bout. The former Army soldier has a huge fan following, and after you see him perform on June 9th you will see why. Undefeated cruiserweights collide as Brent "The Terminator" Carline (2-0) of Houma, Louisiana, is set to face Jimmy "Mad Bomber" Owensby (3-0) originally of Cut Off, Louisiana, now fighting out of South Carolina. In a 6 round super heavyweight rematch Scott "White Bean" Rossum (11-2) will take on "Big" John Dixon of Gulfport, Mississippi. Dixon edged out Rossum in December of 05' Also featured on the card will be Grand Bois, Louisiana's Justin "Ironman" Verdin (2-0), Clinton, Louisiana's Tafari "Two Piece" Beard (3-1) , WBC 3rd ranked female heavyweight in the world Monica McGowan (12-3).
