ESPN2 in Western NY

March 28, 2008

By Bob Caico

Professional boxing returns to Salamanca, NY for the first time in memory with a national televised event on ESPN 2 on Friday, March 28th at the Seneca Allegany Casino & Resort. The boxing show will be held at the new 1,700-seat event center that opened on March 14th. The Seneca Gaming Corporation started their Seneca Nation of Indians Athletic Commission for boxing last year with a terrific night of fisticuffs at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, NY.

The 10-round main event will feature former IBF world jr. middleweight Kassim Ouma (25-4-1, 15 KOs) against former Contender reality show star Cornelius “K9” Brundidge (27-3, 16 KOs). Ouma is coming off two straight loses and he knows it is an important fight in his career. “I will come to fight and I’m going out there to win. If I have the chance to stop him I will but I will take what comes. I have trained hard for this fight and I am ready.”

The 8-round semi-final match up will have Mike Jones (12-0, 12 KOs) of Philadelphia doing battle with Germaine Sanders (25-7, 17 KOs). Darnell Jiles (8-0, 3 KOs) of Rochester and Henry Lundy (10-0, 6 KOs) of Philadelphia look to continue their unbeaten streaks in the jr. welterweight division when they tangle in a 6-round contest. Four other preliminary fights are scheduled.

Promoter Russell Peltz of Philadelphia provided a very exciting and competitive card at the Seneca Niagara Casino last August 31st and they have teamed up again to put on what looks to be another thrilling boxing event March 28th.

Ticket prices are priced at $25 and $50 and can be purchased by calling 716-852-5000.
