Knockout night in Pikesville!

March 1, 2008

In December of 2007, Baltimore Pro Boxing Promotions gave local fans one of the best cards of the year – six bouts that all went the distance, including three draws.

Saturday night at the Pikesville National Guard Armory, Beltway Boxing fans saw the polar opposite of the December card – six bouts that didn’t make it out of the first round. Fans saw just seven minutes and 39 seconds of in-ring action.

The main event contained the best knockout of the night. Undefeated Baltimore middleweight Jessie “The Beast” Nicklow stopped Rocky Mount, NC veteran Richard “Tiger” Lee Hall with a vicious right to the body-left to the head combination that froze Hall before he fell to the canvas. The knockout came at 2:06 of the first. Nicklow is now 16-0-1, six KO’s. Hall is 10-21-2, six KO’s. This is the second straight time Hall has been stopped in the first round and he is winless in his last nine.

The co-feature saw Eldersburg, MD light heavyweight Mark “TNT” Tucker make his pro debut a successful one with a knockout over Walter Edwards of Wilson, NC. Tucker showed some moxie during the bout because he suffered cuts to the front and back of the head. Tucker eventually dropped Edwards during the round with a left and later trapped Edwards in the corner until the bell rang for the end of the first round. Edwards did not come out for the second. Edwards is now 0-2.

Rookie Brandywine, MD heavyweight Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell stopped Maurice Winslow of Wilson, NC at 46 seconds of the first. Mitchell started from the opening bell landing combinations that eventually forced referee John Gradowski to stop the bout. Mitchell is now 2-0, one KO and recently signed a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Winslow falls to 1-5-1, one KO.

In a women’s bout, middleweight Shelly Seivert of Severna Park, MD took just 34 seconds to stop Bramwell, WVA’s Leslie Lubaczewski. Seivert landed crushing combinations that eventually did extensive damage to Lubaczewski’s nose and put her on the canvas. Ten minutes passed before Lubaczewski finally got up and left the ring. Seivert’s record is now 2-1, one KO while Lubaczewski is now 0-3.

In an all-Florida matchup, undefeated welterweight Richard “El Tigre” Abril of Naples stopped Miami’s Marcos Hernandez at 46 seconds of the first. Abril, a native of Cuba who fought on the Cuban national amateur team, landed blistering combinations to drop the Dominican-born Hernandez. Abril is now 9-0-1, five KO’s. Hernandez is now 6-11-1, three KO’s.

In the curtain-raising bout, Glen Burnie, MD welterweight Lenwood “Mr. Composure” Dozier set the pace for the rest of the card, scoring a 27 second knockout over Louechie Wiggins. A solid overhand right dropped Wiggins for the count and gave Dozier his first pro win. Dozier is now 1-0-1, one KO while Wiggins is 0-3.

Baltimore Pro Boxing, headed by Jake Smith, promoted the card. The matchmaker was Josh Hall.
