Former three-division world champion Humberto “La Zorrita” Soto (65-8-2, 35 KOs) of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico will take on undefeated contender Antonio “Relentless” Orozco (22-0, 15 KOs) of San Diego, Calif. in a 10-round super lightweight showdown as the co-main event for Lucas Matthysse vs. Viktor Postol on Saturday, Oct. 3 from StubHub Center televised live on HBO.

“I feel very excited for my next fight. They always say third time is the charm and after two cancelled fights, I’m getting anxious for my return to the ring,” said Soto. “I’m used to fighting often, but now it’s been almost a year without fighting and as everyone knows, I couldn’t fight in Houston [on May 9] since my opponent was overweight. Then, the opportunity to fight for a new world title and an issue with my knee forced me to decline the fight. I’ve felt frustrated because I had been training really hard.

“Now, we have Antonio Orozco. I haven’t seen much of his fights, but from what I’ve heard I know he’s very dedicated and holds a winning mentality. Orozco is young, undefeated, and he has to show everyone how far he wants to get in this sport. I’m his test, but I have the experience, and I have to make a statement as to why I’ve been a three-time world champion. I’ll show that I’m ready for this opportunity and for another world title.”

On Sunday night’s Bounce TV telecast, former world champion Adrien Broner stated that his next fight will be on October 3rd. The name of Ruslan Provodnikov has been mentioned as a possible foe. In any event, AB could end up going head-to-head with Lucas Matthysse vs. Viktor Postol scheduled for the same night on HBO.

Tyson Fury’s trainer Peter Fury tweet over the weekend: “Call just came in from USA asking @hughiefury to fight Wilder in 4 weeks…if @hughiefury gets 8 weeks we will take it 1000%. We don’t do bottle jobs in this camp!!” The 20-year-old Hughey Fury is 16-0, 8 KOs, but currently not in the WBC top 15. WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder is looking for a September 26 opponent.

Still no new developments on Floyd Mayweather’s planned September 12 fight in Las Vegas, which is a little over a month away.

Yes, FoxSports.com really did publish a piece calling for a Mayweather-Rousey fight. The last man vs. woman boxing match was in 1999 when Margaret McGregor fought Loi Chow in Seattle. The woman won that one.

As fans know, former “Contender” winner Sergio Mora traded first-round knockdowns with defending WBA middleweight champion Danny Jacobs this past Saturday in New York and a great fight was shaping up. Then Mora suffered an ankle injury and was unable to continue. Currently very disappointed, Mora says he is aiming for a rematch and wants the 2nd-round TKO win that was awarded to Jacobs changed to a No-Contest.

Here Mora speaks exclusively with Fightnews:

First of all, Sergio, how is your ankle right now?

“My ankle is fractured. I will be seeing the orthopaedic specialist this Wednesday. I also had some liquid in my right knee, which is a sign of trauma. But the main injury was my ankle. I’m taking pain medication right now.”

It was shaping up as a great fight, with a thrilling opening round. How do you feel the fight would have developed further had you not suffered the injury?

“Well, I’ve gone into my last five fights expecting to stop my opponent – that has been my mentality since my return in 2012. I was going for the stoppage, especially against a guy like Jacobs, who has been stopped before. The knockdown I suffered, it was a good punch from an unexpected angle. But I recovered fast because I was in great shape. I wasn’t hurt, I was more surprised. It all happened so fast, but looking back at the video of the fight, I absolutely feel he was more visibly shaky than me when he went down. But I knew I still had to respect his power.”

You want a rematch as you stated, and you also believe the fight should be changed to a No-Contest. What will you do if things do not go your way?

“First of all, I will start by contesting the decision officially with the New York Commission. I have already spoken with a respectable, well-known New York attorney, who will look into my case immediately. Secondly, if this fight’s result is changed to a No-Contest, I think this will provide Team-Jacobs with the incentive to reconsider their opinion [on taking a rematch]. With the help of fans and media such as yourself, opinion can be swayed. I did not lose the six-minute fight. I don’t deserve another controversial loss on my permanent record. The New York Commission is not known for political corruption, like in, say, Texas. I think I will have a fair hearing considering how they [the NY Commission] will use video replay as evidence.”

The future of Puerto Rican boxing rests on the shoulders of super-talented young men, Jose Pedraza, Felix Verdejo and Emmanuel Rodriguez. Rodriguez (12-0, 8 KOs) is the least known of the trio having fought only in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, but the 23-year-old bantamweight is already ranked 7th by the WBO and 14th by the WBA. Rodriguez turned pro at the end of 2012 after a stellar amateur career in which he racked up a 160-11 record. At 17, he was already a member of the Puerto Rican Amateur team; he won a silver medal at the AIBA Youth World Champion in Baku 2010 and the gold medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore.

Emmanuel was one of Puerto Rico’s strongest hopes for a medal at the 2012 Olympics when he was the victim of an accident in a pickup truck in which he had second degree burns over 66% of his body. He had to undergo months of painful recovery. Says Emmanuel, “I didn’t give up. Actually, this ordeal made me stronger. I thought I was ready to get back in the ring for the Pan Am Games and the Olympics but they didn’t give me the OK. However, this difficult moment in my life allowed me to meet up with my manager Juan Orengo. He came to my help financially and mentally. When I turned pro, I signed up with him.”

In his pro career Rodriguez has been moved along quickly by his team. In only his seventh fight, Emmanuel beat David Quijano who had just fought for the WBO title. In his ninth bout, he won the WBO Latino bantamweight title with a one round destruction of Miguel Cartagena (13-1), a two time US National Amateur Champion. In his last fight, the young Puerto Rican dismantled WBA #9 ranked Luis Hinojosa in three rounds. He will be stepping back into the ring on August 22nd against tough Mexican Alex Rangel in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

Says manager Orengo, “Emmanuel is so versatile, a boxer-puncher. He can take his time and has beautiful defense, but he will also strike like a cobra. He knocked Cartagena out with just one beautiful punch.”

And when will US boxing fans have the opportunity of discovering the talent of Emmanuel Rodriguez?

“Very soon,” says Orengo, “New York, Las Vegas, we’re coming.”

Robert Coster is an excellent judge of boxing talent. To date, five young fighters from his “New Faces” series have gone on to win world titles (Tomoki Kameda, Evgeny Gradovich, Johan Perez, Nicholas Walters and Ruslan Provodnikov).

Last week, WBO jr middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade was stripped by the WBO for failing to defend his title for 13 months. On July 29, Andrade’s promoters Star Boxing and Banner Promotions filed a $20 million lawsuit against rival promoter Roc Nation, Jay Z and boxing attorney Jeffery Fried, alleging that Roc Nation tortiously interfered with their exclusive promotional agreement with Andrade.

The lawsuit alleges that on September 23, 2014, Roc Nation brought the Andrade Team to their Manhattan corporate headquarters for a meeting and subsequently offered Andrade $550,000 if Andrade would refuse a fight against Jermell Charlo that Star Boxing and Banner Promotions had negotiated with Showtime, and claimed that Roc Nation was planning to buy Andrade’s contract and move him to HBO. Andrade did reject the Charlo fight, but was never paid the $550,000, nor were serious efforts made to purchase Andrade‚Äôs exclusive promotional rights.

The lawsuit also alleges “The actions of Roc Nation and Fried were intentional, malicious, without justification and not done for legitimate, competitive business reasons, as Andrade was under exclusive contract with Star Boxing and Banner Promotions, and Roc Nation had no authority to be negotiating with Andrade” and that if Roc Nation hadn’t interfered, Star and Banner “would have been able to consummate a four-fight deal for Andrade to appear on Showtime.”
