Detroit card faces problems!

Wednesday, September 19 2007

Red tape could KO an October 18 fight card at the Compuware Arena in the Detroit suburb of Plymouth, Michigan, featuring unbeaten Kronk fighters. Cruiserweight Johnathon Banks (17-0, 13 KOs) and middleweight Andy Lee (11-0, 8 KOs) are slated to face opponents to be named, however, the state's looming budget crisis and possible partial government shutdown will not allow the boxing commission to sanction the event because the state cannot guarantee to pay inspectors to oversee the show. According to the Detroit Free Press, the card promoted by Sylvia Steward (daughter of Emanuel Steward), possibly could go on if the OK is given for inspectors to work the card free.
