WBC mini-flyweight champion Edgar Sosa, fresh from what probably is his most impressive victory to date Saturday night in Veracruz against Roberto "Mako" Leyva, expressed his desire to fight the other reigning titleholders in the 108lb division in 2008. "I would like to start the process of unifying the title once (and if) I get passed a mandatory defense due next year," declared the young Mexican monarch. About his bout with Leyva, Sosa commented, "He was a southpaw and I knew he packed a big punch. I kept him at bay with my jab while waiting for an opening." Such an opening appeared in the fourth round and the young Mexican champ levelled his opponent with a crunching hook to the liver.

Talking about the immediate future, manager Jacques Deschamps expects Sosa to be back in the ring no later than February for yet another defense of the WBC crown. "Edgar is a throwback. He is willing to fight every two months and against any foe." An interesting detail: When Sosa won the title last April, he was working as a taxi driver in Mexico City. When asked about that, Edgar answers with a wide grin, "Of course I donīt drive the cab anymore. Iīve got somebody driving it -- thatīs what being a champion is all about!"
