Two EBU fights in 7 days to be held in Belgium.

It looks as if Belgian boxing is getting a brief resurrection. Several good shows are announced for the months of April, May and June. Not less then 2 EBU fights will be held in 7 days time. Several other title fights are also scheduled. It all starts on April 21 in Tienen where the main event will see local star Dries Kumpen (13-1, 5ko) face Seladjin Koxha (7-3-2, 2ko) for the vacant Belgian 175lbs title. 3 other fights with Hicham Nafil, Saber Gasmi and the debut of Houssein Hammouch.

Next is on May 1st in Brugge where the main event of the “Memorial Fernand Roelands” will see two unbeaten boxers square off for the vacant BeNeLux 130lbs title. Herve De Luca (9-0-1, 6ko) faces Innocent Anyanwu (8-0-1, 4ko) over 10 rounds. 4 other bouts with Hovhannes Zhamkochyan, Lucien Lufulwabo, Carlos Nesting Takam and debutant Alex John Ogbu will complete this yearly event.
The biggest event since at least the last 30 years will take place in Liege on May 5th. Not less then 12 professional fights are scheduled. The most important fight there will see Ermano Fegatelli (10-2-0, 4ko) to face unbeaten Italian Antonio De Vitis (8-0-1, 3ko) for the vacant EU 130lbs title. Michael Henrotin (15-2, 7ko) has hard hitting Najim Ettouhlali (9-1-2, 8ko) in the other corner with the vacant IBF Inter-continental 168lbs at stake. Lansana Diallo will make his farewell fight against Australian import Sean Connell with a poor 10-8-2, 4ko record. The WBF sanctions this 12 rounder. Most important undercard fight will see a big test for Jamel Bahki who will face Kai Kauramaki. Others who will appear on this huge event are European female champion Natalie Toro, TWBA 160lbs champion Cedric Charlier, Alexander Polizzi and 5 other bouts.
Then in early June, just before the summer break, we'll see an unedited week for Belgian standards with two European titlefights in 7 days. Carmelo Ballone (19-2-1, 8ko) will try to wreck the EBU 118lbs title from WBC #1 Simone Maludrottu (25-1, 10ko) in a rematch of his Nov. 2005 split decision loss. Now he will have home advantage with the fight to be held in his hometown of La Louvière on June 3rd … On June 9th hard hitting WBC #4 Jackson Osei Bonsu (24-1, 21ko) will bring great time boxing back to Antwerp when he makes a voluntary defence of his EBU 147lbs title against Italian Cristian De Martinis (19-1, 10ko). It has to be said that the new EBU President, Bob Logist, is from Belgium and this might be one of the reasons that the promoters are more and more focussed on EBU related titles.
