Hatton, Calzaghe, Solo Boxeo

Ricky Hatton will kick off a new career as a promoter in Birmingham, England, come September 4. Meanwhile, Hatton is preparing to meet Paul Malignaggi in Las Vegas Nov. 22. While Hatton is working on training and promoting, the Manchester “Hitman” has plans to set up his own line of clothing and boxing equipment.

This Friday’s Telefutura Solo Boxeo Tecate card, from Ponce Puerto Rico, features a 10-round lightweight bout between Daniel Jimenez (17-3-1, 10 KOs), of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Brooklyn’s Shamir Reyes (18-5-2, 7 KOs). Puerto Rico’s Irving Garcia (16-3-2, 8 KOs) and Hector Munoz (18-1, 11 KOs), of Albuquerque, N.M., will mix in the 10-round welterweight co-main.
Joe Calzaghe’s attorneys have filed a High Court counterclaim to Frank Warren and his Sport Network’s case against the undefeated champion. After ending a 12-year association with Warren and Sports Network in June, Calzaghe was slapped with a suit claiming he’d broken a verbal contract to promote future fights. Calzaghe is countersuing, denying Warren’s claims while alleging that he is owed at least $4.5 million for his defeat of Bernard Hopkins in April.
