Tonight at Isleta Resort & Casino: In a long-awaited showdown, two-plus years in the making, Albuquerque’s Holly Holm (22-1-2, 6 KOs) made it look easy, with a one-sided unanimous decision over Detroit’s Mary Jo Sanders (25-1, 8 KOs). Defending one of her IFBA title at 154, Holm won every aspect of the game, outpointing Sanders through ten rounds to win with scores of 98-92 twice and 97-93. The Fresquez-promoted, PPV-televised card aired three additional title fights, two of which ended by controversial split decisions. In an IFBA lightweight title defense, Chevelle Hallback (27-5-2, 11 KOs), of Tampa, Fla. defeated Jeannine Garside (7-1-1, 3 KOs), Ontario, Canada, via split decision, with scores of 94-96, 96-94 and, somehow, 99-91. In an IFBA jr. flyweight title fight, Wendy Rodriguez (19-4, 3 KOs), evened the score in a rematch against Hollie Dunaway (21-7, 10 KOs), of Van Buren, Ark., with scores of 94-96, 96-94 and 98-92. The opening title fight, for the 108-pound IFBA belt, ended with a clear-cut unanimous decision for Carino Moreno (17-1, 5 KOs), of Watsonville, Calif., over Hawaii’s Eileen Olszewski (5-1-1). Scores were 100-90 twice and 97-93. In the opening fight of the night, a men’s jr. lightweight bout, Albuquerque’s Willie Willie Villanueva (9-1, 3 KOs), was upset by split decision by Las Cruces’ Lorenzo Estrada (2-14-1, 1 KO). Scores were 56-55, 55-57 and 56-55. Full report and gallery to be posted tomorrow afternoon.
