William Kickett (12-0, 5 KOs) was impressive in clearly outscoring WBO No. 11 Vincente Martin Rodriguez (21-2, 10 KOs) of Argentina, over 10 rounds to capture the IBF Pan-Pacific Youth and WBO Asia-Pacific 130-pound titles on Friday at the Wyong Leagues club, Wyong, NSW, Australia. The talented aboriginal was mobile in all the rounds, continually delivering rapid combinations to the head and body. In round two, Rodriguez was rocked by power shots to the head, putting him on unsteady legs as the bell sounded. Round six had both boxers exchanging non-stop power shots. The aggressive Rodriguez poured the pressure on in round eight ,but had trouble scoring against the elusive Kickett who continually found the mark for his accurate punches. Round ten was all action, with Rodriguez trying hard to nail Kickett, but he was outpunched by the Aussie star. At the end, scores were 99-91 twice, and 100-90.

On the undercard, Steven Wills (8-0-2, 3 KOs) outpointed Junmar Dulog (5-14-1) over ten rounds to capture the vacant Australian lightweight title. Both Wills and Dulog boxed from the southpaw stance in a very entertaining contest. Wills was cut on the cheekbone from a punch in round six and Dulog was cut over the right eye in round nine. Scores were 98-92, 95-95 and 98-93. Other results: light middleweight Robert Medley (21-2,14 KOs) outpunched and outboxed tough Lee Oti (9-9-1) of New Zealand over six rounds. Medley who has only lost to world rated Isacc Hlatshwayo and is trained by Graham Shaw at the Grange gym looks destined for international recognition in 2009. Brendan Batty (13-18, 10 KOs) narrowly outpointed Kane Buckley (1-7-2) over eight rounds to win the NSW state 130-pound title. Scores were 77-75, 76-76 and 78-76. Classy light middleweight Craige Parke (9-2, 3 KO) captured the NSW state championship with a eight-round decision over Robert Toomey (7-4, 2 KOs). Parke found the range for his accurate left jab to build up the points over his switch hitting hard punching opponent. Scores were 78-76 x 2, and 78-74. Former jr. lightweight amateur star Robert Abott (1-0) made a successful pro debut by defeating Steve Edds (1-3) over four, with scores of 40-36 x 2, and 40-37. Promoter of the card was Bill Treacy; matchmakers were Angelo Hyder and Pat Kennedy. The show was televised nationally on Foxtel cable network.
