Mercurio turns 80!

Australian boxing icon and noted world title referee and judge Gus Mercurio celebrated his 80th birthday in Melbourne, Australia on August 9. Gus was born in 1928 in West Bend, Wisconsin, USA and boxed as an amateur and professional in the lightweight ranks during the 1950s in the USA. He visited Australia in 1956 for the Melbourne Olympics and liked it so much he settled in that city. Mercurio has refereed or judged world title bouts in Australia, USA, South Korea, and Thailand for the WBC and IBF. (More)
