Former WBA world flyweight champion and newly crowned WBO NABO bantamweight champion Eric Morel (39-2, 20 KOs) put on boxing clinic Saturday night in route to unanimously decisioning Heiberto Ruiz. Morel, promoted by PR Best Boxing (Ivan & Peter Rivera), made it quite clear on who he is targeting next. "I'm at the stage of my career where I'm looking for the big fights," stated Morel. "The biggest fight out there for me right now is against WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa (53-6-2, 36 KOs). Our styles make for an entertaining fight. I was already ranked #5 by the WBO entering my fight Saturday night. A December 6th fight with Penalosa and I could work for all parties involved." (Regarding December 6th, Morel was referring to fighting Penalosa on the undercard of Oscar De La Hoya/Manny Pacquiao.)
