Chicagoland fight scene!

February 27, 2006

By Robert Hoffman

In 2006, the Chicago boxing scene has been exploding with action and excitement, and there is no let up in sight.

With six boxing events already having taken place, the promoters based in the greater Chicago and northern Indiana area have another five events announced for within the next six weeks, and many, many more in the planning stages. This should prove to be an exciting year for boxers and fans, with non-stop action throughout the year.

F & F Burns Boxing has an event scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28th at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana. The main event will be a NABC Latino super-middleweight title fight between Robbie Tovar and Devon Lopez. The co-main event features Jeff Baker and Wayne Gregory in a NABC light heavyweight title bout. Tickets are available at 1-800-487-1212.

Johnny B. reports that a small club show is tentatively scheduled for March 15 at the Bourbon Street Bar & Lounge in Merrionette Park, IL. Heavyweights Tommy Hayes 24-1 and undefeated Malachy Farrell 12-0 plan to share the main event status in separate eight round bouts versus opponents to be named.

8 Count Productions along with Top Rank Inc. will return to the Cicero Stadium Friday, March 17th. Featured will be a bout with highly touted 29-1-1 lightweight David Diaz and hard-punching welterweight Gilbert Venegas in separate bouts. Tickets available at 312-226-5800.

8 Count Productions teams up with One In A Million on Saturday, March 25th at the Grand Victoria Casino, Rising Sun, Indiana. Fighters TBA. Tickets available at (312) 226-5800.

Bobby Hitz of HitzBoxing Inc. has announced to Fightnews their return to the Allstate Arena in Rosemont Illinois on Wednesday April 12th. Fighters TBA.

More details of these and other upcoming events will be announced as they become available.
