Kwayiba defending WBC Int'l title!

March 25, 2008

By Ron Jackson

Branco Milenkovic of Branco Sports Productions presents another WBC International title fight when Zukisani Kwayiba makes the third defence of his minimumweight title against Tshepo Lefele at the Carousel Casino in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria on Friday night.

Kwayiba 10-0; 7 won the title when he stopped the highly regarded Gabriel Puma in the tenth round in September 2006.

He has subsequently made successful defences against Sithembile Kibiti and Alex Aroy.

The champion was rather fortunate to retain his title against Filipino Alex Aroy in September last year at the Carousel when a power outage forced a premature ending to the bout. At the time of the stoppage the South African was falling behind and many at ringside considered Kwayiba rather fortunate to receive the points decision after the fight went to the scorecards in terms of the WBC rules at the bell for the seventh round.
Lefele 14-2; 8 was considered a future prospect before being stopped by Gabriel Pumar in March 2006.

In September of 2006 he was blown away in one round by Jonas Kgaso but in January this year put his career back on track with a six round points decision over Pule Nhlapo.

However, if the talented Kwayiba comes into the ring in top condition he should have the beating of Lefele inside the distance.

Branco Milenkovic also announced on Friday that the eagerly anticipated all South African clash between Mzonke Fana and Cassius Baloyi for the IBF junior lightweight belt will be held on April 12 at the Mafikeng University Sports Complex.
