World rated lightweight Al Sabaupan (13-0-1, 10 KOs) will return to ring action on Friday when he will clash with Arnel Donal (10-0-1, 4 KOs) on a star studded show at the Ynares Sports arena, Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. IBF #14 Sabaupan’s best victory came when he scored a clear ten round decision over former WBA title challenger and current Mexican lightweight champion Josafat Perez. (more…)

World amateur sensation Jesse Magdaleno (2nd Left) and his big brother, undefeated Top-10 super featherweight contender Diego Magdaleno (R) along with managers/trainers Pat Barry (2nd right) and Augie Sanchez (L) host a special Election Day Media Workout at Barry’s Boxing Center in Las Vegas Tuesday. Jesse, 18, a graduate of Durango High School in Las Vegas, recently joined his brother by signing a long-term exclusive promotional contract with Top Rank. Day two of the 48th annual WBC convention in Cancun, Mexico got underway this morning with simultaneous functions-ratings committee and officials seminar. President Jose Sulaiman presided over the ratings meeting, hearing recommendations from various promoters and managers to have their charges moved in the ratings. Former two-time world champion Jorge “Niño de Oro” Linares of Venezuala says his goal in boxing is to win five world titles and also begin to provide support for the children in his country. Within the framework of the World Boxing Council 48th Annual Convention that is being held at the Royal Hotel of this city, WBC President Jose Sulaiman was recognized as the “Longest Serving President of a Global Sports Organization.” The corresponding certificate was presented to Sulaiman by Carlos Martinez, representative of Guinness World Records.
This recognition is of extraordinary relevance, as the Guinness Book of World Records is published annually, 100 million copies of it are printed, it is sold in 100 countries, and is written in 37 languages. (more…)
Light heavyweight contender Nathan Cleverly has welcomed the attention from IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud – but says he would love to shut the American up. Last week, Cloud called out the unbeaten Welsh star, telling him “I’l knock you out in the UK.” But Cleverly, who will challenge for the interim WBO World Light-Heavyweight title on December 11 in Liverpool, has fired back. “Cloud’s more than welcome to come to Wales and try and knock me out,” he said. “But quite a few fighters have tried before and got nowhere.” (more…)

WBO Asia Pacific 140 pound champion Steve Wills (14-0, 8 KOs) scored a second round knockout over debutant Sanatanong Paiwan (0-1) at the Whitsunday PCYC, Airlie Beach, Queensland on Saturday. It was obvious from the opening round that the Thai boxer was overmatched and the result in favor of the WBO #11 world ranked fighter was a formality.
In main support, super middleweight Tim Kanofski (10-2) scored an eight round decision over veteran William Hadlow (7-21-5, 2 KOs) to capture the Queensland title. Kanofski outworked the aggressive Hadlow in most of the rounds. (more…)

The 48th annual WBC convention officially got underway Monday morning, November 1st, in the “Sol, Mar y Arena” (Sun, Sea, and Sand”) room at the Royal Cancun Hotel in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. As a capacity crowd of over 800 persons filled the room, a native Mayan drum quartet pounded away as the flags of member nations were paraded into position flanking the stage. After opening remarks from local municipal leaders and introductions of the WBC board of governors and visiting promoters from around the world, a roll call of champions past and present in attendance was read, including Devon Alexander, Evander Holyfield, Miguel Cotto, Rafael Herrera, Erik Morales, Iran Barkley, Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, Carlos Zarate, Sebastian Zbik, Omar Niño Romero, Guty Espadas Jr., Hector “Macho” Camacho, Giacobbe Fragomeni, Fernando Montiel, Ana Maria Torres, Irma Sanchez, Naomi Togashi, and Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez. more + pics

Undefeated WBO Featherweight champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez and two-division world champion Rafael Marquez worked out today during media day at the Fortune Gym in Hollywood Monday for their upcoming world featherweight title fight. Juanma wowed reporters with his jump rope skills, padwork, and sessions at the heavy bag and speed bag. Marquez, on the other hand, only performed a short shadow boxing demonstration. (more…)

Phillip Siegel, Chicago Illinois, passed away Monday Morning, November 1, 2010. Phil Siegel was a member of the Executive Board of the WBO, an active Board Member of NABO and served as Chairman of the Illinois State Boxing Commission for 15 years. Phil is survived by his wife, Veronica. Phil Siegel was a member of the WBO Executive Board, the NABO Board and a WBO and NABO Supervisor until at the time of his death. (more…)
Fitz Hotel & Casino in Tunica, MS returns November 6th with its latest installment of “Fights At The Fitz” headlined by six-round middleweight clash between two undefeated fighters as heavy handed Mario Mina (5-0, 3 KOs) goes up against Foster Nkodo (5-0, 1 KO). Also, scheduled is an eight-round rematch between Nicole Woods (11-7-1, 3 KOs) and Kim Connor (6-1-2, 3 KOs). Their first fight ended in a draw. Also 2008 Zambian Olympic Team member Hastings “Sting” Bwalya (4-0, 3 KOs) will battle against tough veteran Anthony Bowman in a scheduled four round welterweight bout.
