Contender Season III champion Sakio “The Scorpion ” Bika (28-3-2, 19 KOs) has expressed disappointment that he was bypassed in favor of Allan Green (29-1, 20 KOs) as the replacement for Jermain Taylor in SHOTWTIME’s acclaimed Super Six 168 pound tournament. Bika was actually scheduled to fight Allan Green in a February 5 boxoff with the winner getting Taylor’s spot in the Super Six, however Bika said visa problems (now resolved) prevented that fight from happening, thereby opening the door for Green to enter the tournament directly. “I was the better option to replace Jermain Taylor,” maintains Bika. “If you compare Allan Green’s career to mine, I have had more experience and accomplishments in the ring.” (more…)
Exciting WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan is scheduled to make his U.S debut on May 15 in Las Vegas against an opponent to be named. The preferred foe is Juan Manuel Marquez, but Marquez has thus far failed to agree to the bout and his camp is balking at the idea of Marquez again moving up in weight. If, however, Marquez were to take the fight and defeat Khan, he would make history as the first Mexican fighter to win a world title in four weight divisions.

WBC/WBA super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan has continued his vicious verbal assault on WBA interim champion Nonito Donaire, whom he hopes to avenge a KO loss against. “The more I hear about Donaire, the more it makes me feel he should be taking up a new job, maybe he should take up a new occupation, he can take care of those in need of retirement,” said the popular Australian-based Armenian. “He knows he got lucky and he wants nothing to do with fighting me. Arce is finished, he fought a bum for a vacant world title and he calls himself a champion, now Donaire wants to fight Arce. Give the fans what they want. You don’t see Manny Pacquaio fighting opponents with walking sticks. I’ve got two titles ready for you to take. You believe you’re the man? Come and be a unified champion. You can fight Arce after you fight me.” (more…)

A sold out crowd of enthusiastic Southern California fight fans turned out at the always popular Battle In The Ballroom at the Irvine Marriott to see a six round heavyweight main event featuring undefeated Joe “The Future“ Hanks. From the opening bell it appeared as if Couser’s main intention was to find somewhere soft in the ring to lie, and he found the perfect spot to do so and was counted out by the referee at just 2:22 of the first round. Hanks kept his record perfect and moved to 11-0, 7 KOs without breaking a sweat over the shot Couser (26-21-2, 14 KOs) who dropped his ninth fight in a row. (more…)

IBO Cruiserweight champion Danny Green spoke to Fightnews today from his base in Perth, Western Australia and issued a direct challenge to arch rival Anthony Mundine. He stated, “I want the world to know this is no gimmick. This is a real offer – no B.S. I will come to Mundine’s backyard in Sydney and take him on in April on ANZAC Day . This is the biggest fight in Australian boxing history and after our first fight there is no other fight the fans want to see in our country. We have tried to bring Bernard Hopkins and Antonio Tarver to Australia but neither seem to want the challenge – perhaps they have been put off by what I did to Roy Jones Jr back in December. We offered good money to both these guys but now it is time to move on. The reason I came out of retirement was Mundine was calling me out for a re-match but he has been ducking me ever since. He has to accept this challenge if he wants to retain any boxing credibility in Australia or he should leave the country with his tale between his legs.” (more…)
The “debate” between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr., continued Wednesday in Los Angeles. Jones promised “The day ‘The Executioner’ will leave the boxing ring is going to be April 3rd.” Hopkins countered “The entire Jones family will leave boxing for good after April 3.”
If WBO bantamweight champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel (39-2-2, 29 KOs) defeats Filipino Ciso Morales (14-0, 8 KOs) on Saturday night, his next bout could be a unification showdown with long time WBC bantamweight king Hosumi Hasegawa in mid-April. The 30-year-old Montiel arrived Monday in Las Vegas with his father and trainer Manuel and his brothers Peter and Edward. “My primary goal is to defeat Ciso Morales on Saturday and then I want to face WBC champion Hosumi Hasegawa,” said Montiel from his hotel room at the Las Vegas Hilton. “It would be a big fight and I would love to have the WBC belt.” Hasegawa has defended his WBC belt ten times, most recently knocking out Alvaro Perez. Montiel isn’t looking past Morales however. “It’s clear to me that in the ring there are no easy opponents and I intensely prepared to win this Saturday at the Hilton. We are ready.”

It is heard live Thursday nights from 9 – 10 p.m. ET on 75 affiliates of the Sports Byline USA Network, Sportsbyline.com, Fightnews.com, and podcast available on iTunes. Fightnews readers can listen live by clicking here tonight at 9PM ET.
