Promoter Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves Promotions has announced details for a blockbuster bill on November 6 at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, dubbed “Declaration of War” headed by Isaac Chilemba of Malawi defending his IBO super middleweight belt against South Africa’s Thomas Oosthuizen. Chilemba, who has been fighting at light heavyweight, came down to super middleweight to outpoint Australian Michael Bolling by wide margins in a clash for the vacant IBO belt in June this year. The fight has developed into a real grudge affair as Oosthuizen (11-0, 8 KOs) and Chilemba (15-1, 8 KOs) both have shown their dislike for each other. (more…)
The Group Stage 3 matchups in the Super Six World Boxing Classic, the unprecedented boxing tournament from SHOWTIME Sports® featuring the world’s best super middleweights, have been rescheduled for November 27, it was announced today by Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager for sports programming on the network.
The matchup between breakout American stars and friends, Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell, will headline the SHOWTIME® telecast on Saturday, Nov. 27, live at 9p.m. ET/PT. Ward vs. Dirrell, one of the most talked about matchups of the year, will be contested for Ward’s WBA championship and the newly vacated WBC belt, adding yet another dramatic layer to an already captivating fight.
Ward has already locked up his Semifinal berth, but will be protecting his title and undefeated professional record. Dirrell, conversely, needs a win to guarantee his place in the Semis. Dirrell conceivably could get in with two points but he would need help from fellow tournament competitors.
On the same night, Saturday, Nov. 27 from Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, Arthur Abraham will meet former WBC titlist Carl Froch for their pivotal Group Stage 3 fight. Promoters Kalle Sauerland and Mick Hennessy are working with the Hartwell Arena to finalize details for the event. This bout, matching arguably the two toughest and most aggressive punchers in the Super Six, has been rescheduled from Oct. 2 due to a back injury to Froch.
Allan Green, whose Group Stage 3 bout with Mikkel Kessler was waylaid when Kessler withdrew from competition with an eye injury, has left the perennial contender without an opponent. A decision on Green’s Group Stage 3 bout is expected in the coming days. (more…)

On paper, it was a fight most people wanted to see, even if only to believe that the most resilient fighter of this era, former PRIDE and UFC heavyweight champion “Minotauro” Nogueira was still able to rise from the proverbial dead to pull off an improbable victory.
But for the man scheduled to be facing Nogueira on September 25th in Indianapolis, Frank Mir, it was going to be one of those fights where a win would be expected and a loss would be catastrophic. And after delivering a one-sided thrashing to Nogueira in their first meeting in December of 2008, how could he possibly top the emotional victory that earned him the interim UFC crown?. . . Promoter Frank Warren may be forced to move on and make a new match for James DeGale in December as the clock continued to wind down on a positive response from George Grove and his manager Adam Booth to accept or decline his offer. On Monday Warren sent a formal offer to Adam Booth at 12:58hrs offering Groves a fight against Olympic Champion DeGale on December 11 in London. The offer made to Groves was for £50,000 – with no options attached – which would be his biggest pay-day to date. Booth made an uninvited counter-offer, but it fell far short of the lowest purse DeGale has ever received since turning pro after claiming Olympic Gold. (more…)
