Top Rank has signed hot Texan Super Featherweight Casey Ramos (13-0, 4KO’s) to a 4 year deal. Ramos, out of Austin, Texas, is co-managed by former World Champion Paulie Ayala. Ayala also fought for Top Rank during his illustrious career. Ramos was promoted by Ayala and his Paulie Ayala Productions previously, before successful auditions for Top Rank at the Win Star Casino in Oklahoma in his last two fights. Ramos will fight for Top Rank under his new deal for the first time this Friday, July 15 at 10:00PM CST on ShoBox against Russian Georgi Kevlishvili (12-2, 3KO’s).

The weigh-in for Saturday night’s USBA Heavyweight championship fight between Maurice Harris and Derric Rossy will take place on the Boardwalk in front of Resorts Casino. The weigh-in will start at 3pm eastern and all participants in Saturday night’s card will be on the scale in advance of the big card promoted by Carla Hill and Carla Hill Promotions Fans will have an opportunity to take pictures of the fighters as they prepare for battle the next evening.

Escobedo-Hernandex promise war

In an IBF featherweight elimination bout, Mexico City’s Eduardo “Canilla” Escobedo (31-3, 22KOs) will once again face Joksan “Torito” Hernandez (22-3, 14KOs) of Ensenada, Mex, on Saturday night from the Olympic Coliseum located at the University of Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mex. The twelve round main event headlines the “Puños de Hierro (Fists of Steel)” fight card presented by HG Boxing. The contest will mark the two Mexican warriors face each other. The first time back in January of 2010, Escobedo was awarded a unanimous decision over the always tough Hernandez with scores of 97-93, 97-92 and 96-93.

An opponent has been chosen for Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson’s professional boxing debut on August 13 at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, and he is Springfield, Missouri’s James Wade (0-1). The two will meet in the four-round heavyweight main event of a Gary Shaw Productions and Tony Holden Promotions night of boxing.

Ishida: I’ll defeat Chavez Jr.

Former world champion Nobuhiro Ishida, who currently trains in LA, says he’s ready to face WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. “Look no further, I am the right opponent for Chavez. World Boxing Organization (WBO) president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel gave Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck a diamond ring for his successful five title defenses. Huck (32-1, 23 KOs), who will defend for the seventh time his belt this Saturday, July 16, against Argentinian Hugo Hernán Garay (34-5, 18 KOs) at the Olympia-Eissportzentrum in Munich, Germany, got his ring from Valcarcel in a ceremony held at the Novotel Hotel in Munich today. Wax B-Hop: Believe it or not!

Ripley's to make wax figure of Bernard Hopkins

On Monday and Tuesday, July 18 and 19, WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins will be in the F/X Department at the world headquarters of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in Orlando to begin the tedious task of having a full body wax casting made as the first step in having a wax figure created of himself. Hopkins became the oldest fighter at 46-years old in boxing history to win a major world championship with his unanimous decision victory over 28-year-old Jean Pascal on May 21.

The figure will be unveiled to the public at a press conference during fight week activities for Hopkins’ next fight, which will be against Chad Dawson on Saturday, October 15. An official announcement with more details about the fight and the figure unveiling will be forthcoming.

When Gordon Hall was selected 10 years ago to be the executive producer of a new boxing series on SHOWTIME dedicated to giving young prospects a place to display their skills and start what would ultimately become the first steps to winning a world title, there was no way he could envision the success the series would attain.
