Light heavyweight Alfonso “El Tigre” Lopez, 20-0 (15 KOs), scored a 10-round shutout decision over Rubin Williams, 29-10-1 (16 KOs), at the Humble Civic Center just outside Houston. Lopez, 28, pressed the action throughout, stalking Williams around the ring with his jab and repeatedly pinned him against the ropes while unloading combinations to the head and body. Williams, 34, appeared intent on fighting on survival mode from the outset and offered little in terms of offense save a few lunging jabs and sporadic counter punches. Lopez picked up the pace in the final round hoping to score a knockout, but Williams covered up well and successfully blocked or evaded the most damaging blows. (more…)

Allan Green relaxes in his Hilton Oakland Airport suite as he gets mentally ready for his Super Six World Boxing Classic showdown with WBA World Champion Andre Ward televised Saturday, June 19-live on SHOWTIME, 10p ET/PT-from Oakland’s Oracle Arena.
“Fight week for a boxer is 100% mental,” Green stated. “I have done the work. I have trained for a world title fight, but in the last days before that first bell, it can’t be about that in my mind. I know on Saturday that I can walk out of the arena as the new WBA World Champion. But I can’t focus on that. I can only focus on beating Andre Ward.” (more…)

Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) and Gary Shaw Productions have officially announced that WBC light heavyweight world champion Jean Pascal (25-1-0, 16KO) will make a third defense of his title against undefeated IBO light heavyweight champ Chad “Bad” Dawson (29-0-0, 17KO) on Saturday, August 14th at the Bell Centre in Montreal. “After several discussions we agreed that the best place for this historic fight to take place would be Montreal . Thanks to Gary Shaw we were able to count on HBO’s participation, as they have broadcast all of Chad Dawson’s matches since 2008. “That was eight months ago for a stadium fight,” said Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of the Klitschko Management Group. “Now for weeks we offered them 1.5 million and that’s it. Still more than he gets or even got in any other fight. Valuev comes from a clear defeat against Haye, and all but the judges saw a loss against Holyfield. This is a typical King game. He has nowhere to go. Austin fights Solis for the mandatory position and Valuev has two options left: fight Vitali or fight Haye in a rematch. But we will definitely not raise the money. If Valuev wouldn’t be over seven foot we wouldn’t even discuss a fight. He can take it or fight Haye again.”
“No more lies, K2,” Team Valuev said today. “No more posturing. No more subterfuge. No more deceit.” Team Valuev announced today that they will accept an offer made by K2 Promotions for former two-time World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolai “Russian Giant” Valuev (50-2, 34 KOs), from St. Petersburg, Russia., to face World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs), from Ukraine. Promoter Don King said much misinformation has been disseminated regarding his position and statements pertaining to Valuev, the fighter he represents with Sauerland Event. “Due to many incorrect representations in the past, I want to make it perfectly clear that K2 Promotions has offered Nikolai Valuev $2.5 million to face Vitali Klitschko, and on behalf of Team Valuev, we are accepting their offer. Nikolai Valuev is the pride of Russia and the Russian people, and he wants to fight for his country and his fans. I hope K2 keeps their word. I hope we are done with the excuses, be they physical, financial or otherwise. Let’s get it on. Let’s go to the mat. My man Niko is going to knock Vitali out.”
