SUPER SIX Tale of the Tape

With less than two weeks before their group stage 2 bout, Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KOs) and Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KOs) will clash in the SUPER SIX WORLD BOXING CLASSIC showdown on March 27 from Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich., at 10:30 pm ET/PT on SHOWTIME®. The Measurement Of A Fight or as most would refer, The Tale Of The Tape gives you the physical measurements of a fighters advantages and disadvantages over the other. Only one will prevail when Dirrell pits his greater size, speed and athleticism against Abraham’s accurate counter punching, defense and versatility. But there is one thing that the Tale Of The Tape cannot give you, the size of a fighters heart, determination and will to win. And that’s where this fight will be decided.

Karmazin comments on purse bid

Sylvester-Karmazin headed to Russia

By Alexey Sukachev

Mandatory challenger Roman Karmazin (40-3-1, 26 KOs) who is starting his preparations for the upcoming IBF title shot against middleweight champion Sebastian Sylvester (33-3, 16 KOs) gave Fightnews several comments and expressed his feelings about the recent purse bid to define the organizing promoter of the event. Steven Bash of Bash Boxing, who represents IBF junior middleweight ex-titleholder, was an unexpected winner of the bid, held last Tuesday at IBF headquarters, taking advantage over Sauerland Event. Now IBF #1 Karmazin is in his hometown of Saint Petersburg getting ready to become (if successful against the German) the first Russian to acquire world titles in two weight classes.

Here is what Roman had to say: “I’m positively shocked with the outcome of the bid. I talked to Steven beforehand and he told me our chances were very slim so it came as surprise that we were able to outbid such a powerful company as Team Sauerland. Bash was the first man to tell me about this win and I couldn’t avoid crying myself out of joy and delight. It was really a grand surprise for everyone involved, including me, Steven, our partners and maybe even the German party. I wish to thank my Russian friends and partners, who were able to grant us with enough funds to take the better of Sauerland Event. Thank you guys!” (more…)

Lucas vs. Andrade on May 28

Following his successful return to the ring last December, former WBC super middleweight champion Éric Lucas (39-7-3, 15 KOs.) will be looking to add a 40th win to his outstanding pro record on Friday, May 28th in Quebec City. Considered a Quebec boxing hero, Lucas will be lacing up the gloves against the ever popular Librado Andrade (28-3-0, 21 KO). Andrade is no stranger to Quebec boxing fans, having fought 4 times in this province and showing a record of 2 wins (vs Otis Grant and Vitaliy Tsypko) and 2 losses (both to Lucian Bute, the last by sensational KO last November 28th at the same venue). This bout will be a tough task for Eric, who has only fought once in the last 4 years plus. According to Eric, his ring experience and strong defensive skills are the keys to beating Librado. Lucas has not let up on the intensity level in the gym and will continue his preparation in Florida with his trainer Stephan Larouche and stablemate Lucian Bute. “I am certain many will tell me I set the bar too high and that the challenge is too big, but this is exactly the type of fight I was looking for when I made my return to the ring. I felt the electric atmosphere of the Pepsi Colisee last November 28th when Lucian won, and Quebec City really touched me. Now I want to experience that euphoria for myself in that City,” he stated.

Pacman set for political race

“Now it is time for a more serious fight for me and that is my campaign for congress,” said Manny Pacquiao after dispatching Joshua Clottey. Pacman is planning to go directly into campaign mode for the May 2010 Philippine general election. “The people of my province are among the poorest. They have been underserved for too long. I want to give a voice to those too weak to speak. They deserve better schools and a higher standard of living. I know how my people have suffered because I have too. That is how I grew up and because I am one of the fortunate ones to have escaped poverty I am compelled to be a public servant for them. If my being in public office can attract new businesses to relocate to my province and to shine a light on the neglect my people have endured, I am only too happy to serve. One of the biggest advantages I have is that every fight is an opportunity to give honor to the Philippines. The Filipino people don’t just give me their support, they also give me their strength, their pride and their love. Running for congress is a way for me to repay them.”

Report: Grano Decisions Brown

Ringside Report by Scott Ploof
Photography by Emily Harney

Tony “TNT” Grano (17-1-1, 13 KOs) avenged the only blemish on his professional career, a knockout loss to Mark “Oak Tree” Brown (15-3, 7 KOs) back in September, 2008, on Friday night at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT by scoring a ten round unanimous decision over Brown. Scores of the bout were 97-92 twice and 98-91. Grano was on the offensive throughout a majority of the fight. Brown conserved his energy for the later rounds of the bout, which hurt him on the scorecards. He connected with a right hook in the final round of the bout that put Grano on the canvas. Grano showed his durability by being able to come off of the canvas to finish off the fight and take home the unanimous decision victory. Mike “Machine Gun” Oliver (23-2, 8 KOs) landed a hard body shot that knocked out his opponent , former two time world title holder Kermin Guardia (37-12, 21 KOs) in the corner at 2:19 of round three. The seven bout fight card titled, “Brace for Impact” at the sold out Fox Theatre inside of Foxwoods was promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports. This is the first of two fight cards for CES in the month of March as on Friday March 19th, CES will return to the Twin River Events Center in Lincoln, RI.
