Bobby D. Presents in association with Jorge Marron Productions showcased an array of upcoming local talent in their latest fight card entitled “The Defense-The Battle of the Undefeated” last night at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in San Diego, CA. From heavyweights to welterweights to super bantamweights, an assortment of weight classes were represented in the five bout fight card with the local favorites taking on a mixture of mostly over matched opponents. In the main event, an exciting bloody brawl broke out as San Diego, CA’s Christopher Martin (16-0-2, 4 KOs) remained undefeated and defended his California State super bantamweight title as he battered the previously unbeaten Eduardo Arcos (15-1, 12 KOs) into submission in the seventh round of their scheduled eight. Unheralded underdog Yuichi Yamaki (7-8, 5 KOs), 112, decked an unexpected victory over previously unbeaten prospect, JBC#8 flyweight Masato Anzai (10-1, 4 KOs), 112, by a quick stoppage at 2:48 of the opening round on Thursday in Tokyo, Japan. A time-keeper mistakenly had the gong sound at about 2:30, but the referee Uratani, without any reaction to the erroneous gong, admirably had it go on, as if he had a correct biological clock. He coolly allowed them to continue swapping punches for eighteen-seconds more and then declared a well-received halt. Had Uratani been the third man in the historically problematic Greg Page-Gerrie Coetzee heavyweight title bout in South Africa in 1984, he would have avoided a bizarre KO at 3:50 of the eighth round (though recorded as a knockout at 3:03 in the record books). Uratani’s interior clock might be more correct than the electronic time-keeper then used in Sun City (not made in Japan, hopefully).

WBA#12 feather Retsuri Lee (14-1-1, 8 KOs), 126, absorbed good rights of Thailander Big M Or Boonchuay (10-11, 4 KOs), 123.5, in the first round, but decked him with a well-timed countering right in the closing seconds of the second, and finally floored him again with a left hook following a fusillade of punches en route to a fine TKO win at 1:20 of the third session on Friday in Tokyo, Japan. The bout originally was scheduled for November 19th but instead will be pushed back 8 days.

There would have never been a Karate Kid if Mr. Miyagi didn’t show Daniel Son how to “wax on, wax off.” It took the Zen Master, Phil Jackson, to understand and accelerate the undeniable talents of Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls and mold the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant en route to claiming nine NBA championships in 18 seasons as a coach.

Taking advantage of all the boxing-related press in Las Vegas for Pacquiao-Cotto, Golden Boy Promotions has scheduled an open-to-the-public press conference on Saturday with current WBA welterweight champ Sugar Shane Mosley and current WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto to officially announce their upcoming bout set for January 30 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The press conference will take place at 11AM in the Mizuya Lounge (formerly J-Pop) at Mandalay Bay. The “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya will also be on hand. Fight fans should also keep an eye out for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye, who also has a press event scheduled for that day at Mandalay Bay.

On November 14, at Sports Centre of Malacaragonis (Sardinia Island, Italy), Salvatore and Christian Cherchi’s OPI 2000 company will stage a boxing show. In the main event, Andrea Sarritzu will fight Christophe Rodrigues for the vacant European flyweight title. The two boxers already fought three times: the first battle was ruled a draw, while the following two were won by Sarritzu. In boxing, styles make fights and that’s why the Frenchman will be a tough opponent for the Italian even if Sarritzu is more talented, has a bigger heart and a better record. (more…)

A world championship for undefeated junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson would obviously be huge for the native of Washington, DC. However, as Peterson (27-0, 13 KOs) prepares for his nationally televised (SHOWTIME) Saturday, December 12th title challenge against WBO junior welterweight titleholder Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (24-0, 11 KOs) at the Agua Caliente Resort and Casino in Rancho Mirage, CA, Peterson says there is added incentive.
