This week on Through the Ropes, WBC welterweight champ Andre Berto talked about his upcoming November 27th fight with Freddy Hernandez. He said he doesn’t watch tape of his opponents and is going to use the same tools that have led him to his undefeated record and world championship to defeat his opponent.
Berto also discussed tearing his bicep in the Carlos Quintana fight. When he told his trainer about the injury after the second round, he was told, “You’ve got another arm, use it.” Berto claimed that during the fight he never questioned his ability to win. (more…)

Former champions Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida clash on Saturday night in the main event of UFC 123.
Jackson is not shy about the fact that he is not overly excited about the matchup. He views Machida as a defense-first fighter that hunts and pecks his way to victory, and Jackson prefers to face someone who will stand and slug with him. Thus, he looks at the fight as a necessary evil if he wants to return to the top of the 205-pound mountain and reap the rewards that come along with occupying that post. . . . . Former light heavyweight contender turned cruiserweight, Daniel Judah (23-6-3, 10 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York returns this Saturday, November 20th at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York against Elvir Muriqi (37-5, 23 KOs) in a 10-round cruiserweight bout which is being presented by Havoc Boxing Promotions. Judah looks to rebound after a devastating loss to Adam “The Real Deal” Seal (8-1, 7 KOs) this past May at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Fight fans are invited to see today’s weigh-in for the highly anticipated world championship rematch between WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez and Paul “The Punisher” Williams taking place Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The weigh-in will be today at 5PM in the Caesars Atlantic City Main Lobby.
Las Vegas odds have the fight a virtual pick’em, with Williams as a light favorite at 6:5. It is 3:1 that the fight goes the distance and 5:2 it ends early. (more…)

Andy Lee, WBA # 9 and WBC # 15 middleweight world title contender will be in action on December 11 on the undercard of the Waldimir Klitschko V Derek Chisora heavyweight world title fight at the SAP Arena, Mannheim, Germany. The Kronk fighter for the past month has been training hard at the Kronk Gym in Detroit along his 22-year-old cousin, Tyson Fury. The towering Tyson is presently the English heavyweight champion with a record of 12 straight wins with 9 coming by way of knockout and his ambition is to become a world champion someday. (more…)

Former WBC light flyweight champion and WBC #1 flyweight contender Edgar Sosa(40-6, 24 KOs) steps into the ring on Saturday against Japanese stylist Masafumi Okubo (18-3-1, 6 KOs) in Monterrey, Mexico’s brand new arena in a gala night of boxing that will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. Sosa is aiming to make it a perfect (4-0) to close the year and looking forward to a title shot early next year. Sosa however faces a very worthy opponent in Okubo, a former Asian OPFB Champion who is (13-1-1) in his last 15 fights and has never been stopped. (more…)

Unbeaten lightweight Carlos Molina (14-0, 7 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over John Figueroa (7-8-3, 3 KOs) on Thursday night at Club Nokia’s LA Live in downtown Los Angeles. Molina brought the pressure against Figueroa, who was rocked several times, but Figueroa made it through the full eight rounds. Scores were 78-74, 79-73, 79-72. Figueroa took the fight on late notice replacing David Rodela, who had to pull out after an auto accident. (more…)

Two days ahead of Team Sauerland’s show in Herning, the stars of the TV2 Fight Night all participated in a media work-out at Herning Amatør Bokseklub. Rudy Markussen, Patrick Nielsen, Kim Poulsen and Kasper Bruun provided the curious fans with a first-hand look at their training routine. In the main fight of the night, former European Super-Middleweight Champion Markussen (34-2, 21 KOs) will take on Dejan Ribic (19-1, 7 KOs) from Serbia. The Hardhitter promised to give his opponent a taste of his famous punching power. “Ribic said he is not scared of my power,” Markussen said. “Well, he should be. Once he finds out how hard I can punch, it will be too late for him. I am in great shape and I will put on another strong performance on Saturday night.” (more…)

Esteemed boxing promoter Ramiro Ortiz and historian Enrique Encinosa welcomed a group of roughly 30 media and boxing personalities to upscale Italian eatery, Randazzo’s in Coral Gables yesterday. The press conference comes in advance of Friday’s inaugural boxing card at the new Magic City Casino in Miami (On the site of the former Flagler Dog Track) sponsored by Badia Spices. The main event showcases rugged Nigerian light-welterweight, Eromosele “Bad Boy” Albert (22-4, 10 KOs) against southpaw slugger Joaquin Zamora (18-2, 12 KOs) of New Mexico.
