King Arthur Abraham has arrived in New York to return his IBF middleweight belt. After making ten successful – and spectacular – title defences, the undefeated 29-year-old will move up to super-middleweight. He will meet with IBF President Marian Muhammad during Saturday’s clash between IBF Cruiserweight Champion Tomasz Adamek and Bobby Gunn to personally inform her about his decision and bring back the belt. “It is about time for a new challenge,” King Arthur (30-0, 24 KOs) said. “It was a lot of fun to fight at middleweight but since neither Felix Sturm nor Kelly Pavlik wanted to get in the ring with me, I had to move on. Now I want to become the best boxer in the super-middleweight division and I really look forward to making even bigger fights in the future.”

The open air Woodstock Terrace of the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown San Diego, CA, was once again home for professional boxing and an almost sell out crowd as Rogue Boxing Promotions showcased their second fight night in as many months when they presented “Havoc at the Hard Rock II: No Mercy” Friday night. Due to unseen circumstances regarding licensing of fighters, the original five bout fight card dropped down to three bouts. Despite the lack of rounds, the rowdy crowd left the historic Gaslamp Quarter satisfied with the hard packed action they witnessed in the ring.

In the main event, with fireworks erupting from nearby Sea World in the background, Filipino lightweight sensation Mercito Gesta of Chula Vista, CA by way of Cebu city, PI, scored his second straight knockout win stopping Orlando, FL’s Devaris Crayton in the third round of a scheduled eight. Brinkley defeats Paschall!

By Robert Perea at ringside

Jesse Brinkley, 175, of Yerington, NV, won his eighth consecutive bout with a unanimous decision over Mike Paschall, 173, of Baltimore, MD at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada. Fighting at 175 pounds, the heaviest he’s ever been for a bout, and with just four and a half weeks to prepare, Brinkley said he wasn’t in peak condition. Nevertheless, he saved his best work for last, dominating the 10th round on his way to earning the nod on all three scorecards.

Rustam Nugaev of Perm, Russia joined his countrymen Fedor and Dmitry Chudinov as victors with a 6th round TKO of Orlando Membreno of Managua, Nicaragua. Victor Ortiz Update!

By Francisco Salazar

Junior Welterweight contender “Vicious” Victor Ortiz is not seeking the services of Freddie Roach, according to manager Rolando Arellano. In an exclusive conversation with Fightnews.com, Arellano is dispelling recent rumors that Ortiz is dumping trainers Daniel Garcia and Mario Aguiniga. “We think very highly of Freddie and we respect him a great deal. In fact, he is a very, good friend. However, Victor is not going to break his alliance with Danny and Mario.” Last month, Ortiz was stopped in the sixth round to Marcos Maidana in an attempt for an interim world title last month at STAPLES Center. There was speculation that Ortiz did not want to continue, but officially the ringside physician felt that Ortiz’ swelling around his eyes prevented him from seeing properly. “Because of what happened in Victor’s last fight, rumors started and I’m just here to clarify Victor’s future. Victor is happy with Danny and Mario and will stay with them.” Ortiz is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. No immediate timetable is set on Ortiz’ return.

Kotelnik vows Khan KO!

WBA light-welterweight champion Andreas Kotelnik says he’s been inspired by fellow countrymen Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko – and will emulate their punching power against Amir Khan. Kotelnik, who is good friends with the Klitschkos through their ties to the Ukraine, puts his WBA light-welterweight title on the line against Khan on July 18 at the MEN Arena, Manchester. And he has vowed to finish the fight early in the manner of his country’s most famous sportsmen. “Vitali and Wladimir are big boxing heroes of mine,” said Kotelnik. “The way they have made themselves the best in the heavyweight division by knocking out all their rivals is inspiring. But soon the Ukraine won’t just have the best heavyweights in the world, but the best light-welterweight as well. Vitali and Wladimir’s nicknames are Dr Ironfist and Dr Steelhammer, but when it comes to punching power I am The Professor. I’ve been studying tapes of their fights and I know why they punch so hard – and so will Amir Khan on July 18 once I have knocked him out. Then I’m going to America to clean up the rest of the division and become world number one. All the talk this week has been about Amir Khan against Ricky Hatton, but I’m going to beat Khan and then I’m going after Hatton, and I’ll knock him out as well.”
