Robert Lloyd-Taylor became the first ever reserve fighter to win Prizefighter after defeating Nick Quigley in the Prizefighter Light-Middleweights II final at York Hall in Bethnal Green.
Lloyd-Taylor won the coin-toss with fellow reserve Nathan Weise after JJ Bird fainted in the dressing rooms and was picked out of the hat first by former British, European and Commonwealth Light-Middleweight champion Jamie Moore in the first ever live draw, and WBC Super-Middleweight champion Carl Froch matched him with former two-weight fringe organization world champion Takaloo. Lloyd-Taylor was undaunted by facing the ‘Margate Rock’ and kept the veteran at the end of his jab and reached the semi-finals through a split decision. (more…)

With all due respect to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadians, the long, rich arch-rivalry in sports between Ontario and Quebec is, perhaps, more prevalent today in boxing than even hockey. The aforementioned rivalry heats up October 22 at The Hersey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, when unbeaten WBA #11 Logan Cotton McGuinness, of Ontario, takes on and former world title challenger Benoit Gaudet, of Quebec, in the 10-round main event on a card presented by Hennessy Sports in association with Interbox and United Promotions.
The adversarial provincial competition continues November 5 at Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec as two-time world champion Steve “The Canadian Kid” Molitor (33-2, 12 KOs), of Ontario, faces Sebastian Gauthier (21-2, 13 KOs), of Quebec, in the co-feature on the Lucian Bute-Glen Johnson card, presented by Interbox. WBC #2, WBO #2, and WBC #6 rated middleweight Andy Lee (26-1, 19 KOs) spoke Wednesday about his much anticipated rematch against Brian Vera (19-5, 12 KOs), the only man to defeat him as a professional, on October 1st at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. “I didn’t need the rematch to further my career, but it’s something I’ve wanted,” said Lee. “From the moment I lost to Vera, I’ve wanted to avenge it. It has taken three and a half years to get to this point, but now we are finally almost here. (more…)
WBO #5 cruiserweight Nuri “Albanian Tyson” Seferi (30-6, 18 KOs) will defend his WBO Euro title against unbeaten Belgian Tony Ingelrest (10-0, 4KOs) on September 24 in Gostivar, Macedonia. Seferi trained hard for his second title defense and assures that the title remains in Albania. The most important man in Seferi’s camp is trainer Oktay Urkal. They are aiming for a WBO title shot in 2012.
6’9 heavyweight Tyson Fury is ready for the next step following his win over Dereck Chisora in July at Wembley Arena and now expects 6’6 Nicolai Firtha to be a real test of his credentials on Saturday in Belfast’s King’s Hall. “Firtha’s a big man with plenty of heart and skill so I know I have to be ready for a really hard fight but I want fights like this, I want to be tested because I want to go to the top as quickly as I can,” said Fury. “I don’t want to be fighting bums. This guy has been the distance with the WBA World heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin so if I do a number on him then it shows everybody again that I’m the real deal, that I’m the man to fear in the division.”

The elusive Florida Panther remains one of the most endangered mammals on Earth. He is a solitary hunter active in the Florida swamps and marshlands between the hours of dusk till dawn. Panther Promotions honors both the name and character of this noble, tenacious creature with a night of increasingly “endangered” boxing between dusk to dawn on September 23rd from The Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood. Separating themselves from the current promotional “pack” during their inaugural show here in July, Panther proved young fighters pitted together in truly tough fights remains a winning formula.
Panther’s old-school boxing philosophy continues with the recently-finalized undercard of the “Future Superstars” card. The main event featuring former lightweight world title challengers Daniel “The Prophet” Attah (26-7-1, 9 KOs) and Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry (28-6-2, 16 KOs) will cap an incredible mix of seven hotly-contested preliminary bouts. In addition to the intriguing co-main event between welterweights Damian “Devo” Frias (18-4-1, 9 KOs) and Henry Crawford (22-1-1, 9 KOs), Panther lined up some exceedingly explosive action. (more…)
It’s been four months since the pair first squared off at the infamous press conference at London’s O2 Arena and WBO World Light-Heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly now can’t wait to finally get in the ring with Tony Bellew. There has been plenty of tension between the two unbeaten boxers heading into the October 15th blockbuster at the Liverpool Echo Arena, but Cleverly is looking forward to finally stepping between the ropes.
