Hernandez hammers Anchondo

In a good action fight, world-ranked welterweight Freddy “El Riel” Hernandez (29-1-1, 20 KOs) scored an impressive fourth round TKO over former world champion Mike Anchondo (30-3, 19 KOs) on Friday night at Buffalo Bills Resort & Casino in Primm, Nevada. Anchondo was very aggressive but Hernandez calmly dealt with the pressure with accurate punches. Hernandez dropped Anchondo in the fourth round with a right to the head. Anchondo couldn’t defend himself against Hernandez’ follow up barrage and referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight at the 1:38 mark.

2004 Olympian Luis Franco (7-0, 5 KOs), one of the most talented amateurs to come out of Cuba in the past decade, kept his unbeaten record intact with an eight round unanimous decision over Wilton Hilario (12-2-1, 9 KOs). Scores were 78-73, 80-71, 78-73. More results…

World rated middleweight Andy Lee (23-1-1, 17 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over local favorite Michael Walker (19-5-2, 12 KOs) on Friday night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. The bout was stopped at 2:03 after a sustained barrage by Lee. Legendary trainer Emanuel Steward was in Lee’s corner.

Undefeated junior middleweight Anton “The Pick Hammer” Novikov 17-0, 6 KOs) scored a one-sided eight decision over Luciano “El Michoacano” Perez (17-11-1, 15 KOs) by scores of 79-72, 79-72, 78-74.

In a battle of unbeaten welterweights, Aslanbek Kozaev (12-0, 4 KOs) outpointed Marcus Thompkins (5-1-1, 2 KOs) over six rounds by scores of 59-55, 59-55, 60-54.

Local middleweights Jessie “The Beast” Nicklow (20-2-3, 7 KOs) and “Vicious” Julius Kennedy (7-1-1, 3 KOs) battled to a hard fought ten round draw on Friday night at the Du Burns Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. An exciting fight with good two-way action ended with scores of 98-92 Nicklow and 95-95, 95-95. This one calls for a rematch!

Former world title challenger and current WBC CABOFE champion Armando “Ichiro” Torres (14-7, 9 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO over previously undefeated prospect Omar “Metralla” Gonzalez (17-1, 11 KOs) to claim the vacant WBC Latin light flyweight title on Friday night at the famous Salon Jose Cuervo (former Salon 21) in Mexico City. WBC #4 flyweight Wilberth “Hurricane” Uicab (28-5-1, 17 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over WBC #6 Edren “The Sting” Dapudong (19-2-0, 10 KOs) to take Dapudong WBC Silver belt in front of a sparse crowd (due to a tropical storm) at the Convention Center in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Kiattaweesuk beats Olin

World ranked IBF #11 bantamweight Thanthong Kiattaweesuk (20-0, 14 KOs) scored a fourth round knockout over Lande Olin (5-3) of Indonesia to retain IBF Pan Pacific title at the Mahare Corporation in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday. Kiattaweesuk dominated his opponent as he delivered accurate combinations from the southpaw stance. Olin was dropped in round two and again in round four and referee Kringsak Kronghong counted the import out at 0.46 of the round. Promoter Jimmy Chaichotchuang said, “Kiattaweesuk showed his world class skills again in winning in impressive style today.” Chaichotchuang continued, “I am sure Kiattaweesuk can mix it with the best bantamweights in the world including IBF champion Johnny Perez, Vic Darchinyan and Joseph Agbeko. Sergio Mora was unable to make the 154lb contract limit for his PPV Showdown with Shane Mosley. The fight will go on as scheduled Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but Mora was fined nearly $60,000 by the California State Athletic Commission for coming in three pounds heavy.

The “Fight to Educate” event is a fundraiser to help fund education for underprivileged children. Morel gives up WBO title

Two-time world champion Eric Morel has informed Fightnews that today he voluntarily withdrew as WBO’s Interim bantamweight champion. The organization was mandating a fight with Fernando Montiel in Colombia for October 30th. Morel recently signed a promotional agreement with Golden Boy Promotions, and will pursue other avenues for his career with his new promoter. “My new promoter is presenting exciting fights for me for the very near future. Golden Boy is the perfect vehicle to take my career to new heights. I can’t wait to get started,” Morel stated.

Fanfest schedule “Fiesta de la Independencia”

The “Fiesta de la Independencia” kicks off today at Noon at the L.A. Live (Parking Lot 7) with live Mariachi music and followed at 1pm with an autograph session that includes Juan Manuel Marquez, Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, Abner Mares and Charles Huerta.  The “Golden Boy” Oscar de la Hoya will sign autographs between 2p to 3p at the same location.

The “Fiesta de la Independencia” wraps up when five-time world champion Sugar Shane Mosley and former World Champion Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora go toe-to-toe at the “200: CELEBRATE AND DOMINATE” event at STAPLES Center.
