Blueprint: Aldo vs. Florian

UFC 136 is LIVE on PPV Oct. 8!

Kenny Florian might be the best 155-pound fighter in the world who hasn’t yet won a UFC championship.

Gray Maynard could certainly take umbrage with that statement, but he will get his opportunity to eliminate his name from the list of eligible “never won a title” fighters on Saturday night. I have a sneaking suspicion that he will do just that, too. But I digress  . . . Click here for more by Michael DiSanto, UFC.com

Euro middleweight titleholder Darren Barker returned to England on Monday after his 11th round KO loss to world champion Sergio Martinez in Atlantic City. “I’m still devastated by the defeat as I felt great in camp, in the changing room and in the ring and even though I was written off from day one – we all believed we could do it. After eight rounds I felt so in control and felt I had the beating of him. I knew it was tight but knew I would need to win the last few rounds to be in the mix so tried to do so and came unstuck. I could have survived and lost on points but that’s not what I’m about and that’s not what boxing is about. Former WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (31-1, 28 KOs), who KO’d Mike Oliver (25-3, 8 KOs) on Saturday night in Bayomon, Puerto Rico, said he was very happy with his victory and that he was surprised by the support of the fans when more than 7000 cheered him. “Mike is awkward and waiting [to counter punch], so I had to put pressure. We didn’t want to let him impose his fighting style. I caught a few unnecessary shots but it was necessary to do what we did. Now I want a fight with Orlando Salido, Yuriorkis Gamboa or Jhonny Gonzalez. With whichever the company says. I’ve never ducked opponents and I won’t start now. If you want to be the best, you have to earn it,” he said.

“I want to fight for the title. I didn’t Saturday because the television networks couldn’t agree on a date. I want you to know that I hope it will be resolved and I hope the rematch [against Salido] is in the first quarter of 2012 in Puerto Rico. That was a bad night and and when we fight again, I’m coming to tear off his head. When I saw so many people supporting me despite what happened to me, I said to myself ‘Wow!'”
