Tickets have quietly gone on sale for the April 10 clash between former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield and WBF titleholder Francois Botha at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. Seats are $25, $75, $150 and $250. The 47-year-old ring legend Holyfield has previously fought in Las Vegas 16 times, the most recent being his bout with James Toney in 2003.

Boxing returns to the San Fernando Valley in Southern California with a card this Friday featuring local fighters in four and six round bouts. In the main event, Super Welterweight Anthony Hirsch will take on Mario Evangelista in a scheduled six round bout at the American Legion Hall in Reseda, CA. The bout will headline a seven-bout “Brawl At the Hall 1″ card, presented by Fulton Street Fight Club Promotions. Hirsch, (10-3-1, 5 KO’s) from Oakland, CA, won a four round bout over Jose Celaya in his last bout in November. (more…)

Photo: A final press conference highlighting Saturday night’s undercard for “The Event,” featuring Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey, was held today at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas. In the co-main event, a 12-rounder for the WBC lightweight title, former champ David Diaz (35-2-1, 17 KOs) will get the chance to regain the belt he lost to Pacquiao by taking on two-division champ Humberto Soto (50-7-2, 32 Kos). Although friends, Diaz and Soto said they would put aside friendship for 12 rounds in a fight they promised would steal the show. Stay tuned for a full report and more photos.

WBO #1 rated lightweight Kevin Mitchell has promised an old fashioned East End tear up when he faces WBO interim world beltholder Michael Katsidis on May 15 in London. The fight could go on at the 35,000-seat Upton Park stadium, home of Mitchell’s beloved West Ham United football club. Promoter Frank Warren is currently in negotiation with the venue, with the ExCeL Arena also under consideration. “It would be a dream come true to fight at Upton Park,” said unbeaten Mitchell at a press conference to officially announce the fight today. “The east end loves a nice little punch up and I’ll give them one when I fight Katsidis. He’s a great fighter but I’m confident I’ll knock him out. He better bring a good cutman because I’m planning on busting him up real bad. Looks like a showdown between WBA lightweight champion Paulus Moses of Namibia (25-0, 17 KOs) and WBA interim lightweight champion Miguel Acosta of Venezuela (26-3-2, 20 KOs) will be happening in May. No specific date has been singled out yet, but Caracas, Venezuela is the likely site for the bout.
WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco “Captain” Huck and challenger Adam Richards exchanged a few niceties today when they came face-to-face after the official press conference. Huck made fun of Richards’ nickname “Swamp Donkey”. He said: “He looks like a donkey and he behaves like a donkey – he is a donkey! There is no way a donkey will take the title away from me. The World Boxing Association will make a decision by next week regarding the controversial fight between Gabriel Campillo and Beibut Shumenov. The WBA will review arguments submitted by representatives of both fighters after observing the video. In the fight, which took place on January 29th in Las Vegas, Shumenov was favored by judges Patricia Jarman (117-111) and Jerry Roth (115-113), while Campillo was seen as the winner by Levi Martínez (117-111).
Carlos “El Indio” Quintana registered 160.2 lbs in his WBC 30-day safety weigh-in, held today in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The weight was within the mandated 10% over the 147 pound limit. The ceremony was supervised by Attorney Herman Colberg, representing the WBC. Quintana will challenge WBC Welterweight Champion Andre Berto, this coming April 10th in Sunrise, Florida.
He might’ve been his most devastating conqueror, but Alfonso Gomez owes a lot to Miguel Cotto.

Former world champion Ricky Hatton has reportedly been talking retirement during a weekend drinking binge in Tenerife. The British boxing icon has been planning a tentative comeback on June 26, however he’s been walking around at near 200lbs and even his father/manager Ray Hatton has expressed uncertainty about “The Hitman’s” future in the ring. An announcement is expected.

With the knockout streak out of the way and a Canadian championship safely in hand, unbeaten David Lemieux (21-0, 20 KOs) defends his super-middleweight belt versus rugged Walid Smichet (20-6-3, 14 KOs) on April 3 in what will be the final Casino de Montreal show for quite some time. Lemieux was able to reel off twenty straight knockouts before being forced to go the distance in winning the Canadian crown versus Jason Naugler. But whether the Lemieux match-up ends early or goes the distance, it will definitely be lights out at the Casino following the fight, when the Cabaret room that has hosted boxing regularly for the past six years shuts off its lights for good as a scheduled three year reconstruction takes place.
