The World Boxing Association continues to review information on the complaint lodged by representatives of former WBA super world champion Celestino “Pelenchin” Caballero against the outcome of his match with Jonathan Barros for the WBA featherweight world title last June 19 in Argentina in a controversial split decision in favor of hometown champion Barros.
“I repeat again the reason for waiting is to respect due process for both fighters. Each one has a right to defend their position, especially when the decision has a direct impact on the future career of the boxer. Besides when dealing with your own organization it’s necessary to clearly inform the judges of the code or penalties applicable,” said Mendoza Jr. today. (more…)

Tyson Fury says once he knocks out British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora on July 23 at Wembley Arena he wants to do the same to David Haye before a showdown with World champion Wladimir Klitschko.
Fury was left bewildered by how David Haye flopped on the big stage against Klitschko in their World heavyweight title fight in Hamburg. “I’m the future of heavyweight boxing in Britain and the world,” says Fury. “When you looked at how Haye boxed against Klitschko, it’s not how a true heavyweight with a true heart should fight but the British fans shouldn’t worry because I’m the coming force and I’ll show that when I knock out Chisora. Then I want to knock out David Haye to prove to Wladimir that I’m the real deal.” (more…)

A bone chip in the middle finger of his right hand has forced junior middleweight Allen Conyers out of his scheduled 10-round main event with Gabriel Rosado on Friday evening, July 15, at Bally’s Atlantic City. Stepping in to replace Conyers is Ayi Bruce, winner of five in a row and perhaps a tougher test for Rosado. Fighting at Bally’s will be no problem for Bruce, 25, who upset southpaw Shamone Alvarez last Dec. 4 in the same ring in the loser’s backyard. A pro since 2006, Bruce is 13-3, 7 K0s, and is 5-2 since coming to the United States from Accra, Ghana, in 2010. Once Bruce got acclimated after losses to a pair of unbeaten prospects, lefty Emmanuel Taylor and Ray Serrano (by majority decision), he has never looked back. Conyers sustained his knuckle injury over the weekend and notified Peltz Boxing on Tuesday evening he would be unable to fulfill his contract to fight Rosado.
