Green: Mundine likes safe foes

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green has been critical of Anthony Mundine and the opponents he selects to fight. Green said, “I’m not sure what his next fight is, I dare say it would be against someone that is going to be a relatively very safe option for him. It’s pretty much a pattern now.” Green was clearly defeated by Mundine over twelve rounds in 2006 in a bout that attracted a record live gate of over 30,000 fight fans. Mundine won a disputed split points decision over Daniel Geale in May to win the IBO middleweight title and has since been ordered by the IBO to give the classy Geale a rematch. Green has also been chasing a rematch with the former WBA 168 pound champion. Mundine said, “If Greeny has still got that cruiserweight after Roy Jones, he knows where I’m at.” The Danny Green vs Roy Jones Jr. IBO cruiserweight title bout is slated for November 29 with the most likely venue being the Sydney Entertainment Center.
