Ramos defeats Selders

By Peter Lim at ringside

Middleweight Nelson Ramos, 5-1 (2 KOs), outboxed and out-slugged previously undefeated Tyrone Selders, 5-1 (5 KOs), over six action-packed rounds at the Houston Club in a rare matchup between cross-town prospects. After three evenly-contested rounds, Ramos, 24, turned buzzsaw in the fourth, bouncing Selders’ head around like a speed bag with two-fisted barrages. Rather than clinch or retreat, Selders, 27, gamely returned fire with both fists, but it was Ramos who was clearly getting the better of the exchanges. Despite being out-gunned, Selders continued to press the action, but Ramos made himself an elusive target by moving side to side and bobbing and weaving under incoming artillery. While Ramos fluidly rattled off combinations, he rarely allowed Selders to land more than one clean punch at a time. At the end of the day, it was Ramos’ superior ring generalship and trigger-happy punch output that won him the fight. (more…)
