Fury joins Wlad in camp

Unbeaten 6’9 heavyweight Tyson Fury (13-0, 9 KOs) recently joined IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in his training camp in Austria. “It was a pleasure and a great honour spending time in camp with Wladimir Klitschko, it’s given me a great deal of confidence training alongside such a champion,” said Fury. “He is definitely a fighter who is at the top of his game. Wlad and his brother, Vitali are both modern day heavyweights who are not only very talented and athletic but also big heavyweights. There has been all sorts of speculation flying around why David Haye isn’t fighting one of the Klitschko brothers, but in my honest opinion I believe it’s because David isn’t big enough to deal with the likes of Wladimir or Vitali. But I’m going to change all that in the future, not only am I talented, athletic, have the determination and toughness but also I’ve I got youth on my side, plus I’m also bigger than the likes of the Klitschko brothers as you can see by the photo. When I realize my dream and become unified heavyweight champion of the world I will avoid no one, I’m sure I will be a dominant heavyweight champion just like Lennox Lewis, only I will be representing the UK and Ireland.” Fury returns to the ring on February 19 at the Wembley Arena in London vs. TBA.

Bradley-Alexander recap

By Graham Houston

The first highly anticipated bout of 2011 failed to live up to expectations. Timothy Bradley came to fight, Devon Alexander to score points, and the clash of junior welter champions on HBO turned into a nip and tuck contest devoid of drama and with an unsatisfying conclusion. As Jim Lampley said, when the bout went to the scorecards in the 10th round it was the “worst case scenario” for the viewers who had been expecting an exciting fight with a definitive ending.

Bradley was the better fighter and deserved the unanimous decision he received. Alexander made cute moves but didn’t dig down the way we had been led to believe would be the case. Most of the rounds were close, but Bradley was, as they say, making the fight. Alexander was ahead in most of the computer punch-count categories: punches landed, punches thrown, power punches landed (a “power punch” being anything other than a jab). Bradley, though, landed the more meaningful blows. (more…)

“I pack a punch and I’m not one of those guys who will say, ‘I’m going to knock all three guys out’ but that’s what I’m in there for,” said Reid. “I’m knocking on a bit, but I’ve kept myself in good shape – even when I retired four years ago, I stayed in the gym and I’m in this to win it. I know that if I catch somebody they are going to go and from what I’ve seen, the quicker you get them out of there the better – you have more time to recover and touchwood you get no cuts, and you are in good shape to progress.” (more…)
