Samor defeats Tampus

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

Thailand flyweight prospect Rusalee Samor (14-3-2, 6 KOs) scored a twelve round decision over Filipino Ryan Tampus (10-8, 7KOs) in an exciting battle at the Mahanakorn Floating Market, Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday. Tampus took control of the contest in round one as he connected with accurate combinations on the aggressive Samor. The Thai boxer stepped up the pace in round two and delivered solid head and body shots consistently on the tough 22-year-old Filipino who seemed to tire through rounds six to eight but in round nine Tampus connected with accurate combinations on Samor that had him out on his feet through most of the round but showing a big heart he stayed upright until the bell. Samor recovered well between rounds mainly because of his excellent physical conditioning and came back to win rounds ten and eleven. Tampus went on the attack in the final round and scored well to win the round but went down by decision to Samor by scores 115-112, 116-112, 116-111. (more…)

Concepcion defeats Garcia

Mayol, Mepranum also victorious

By Rocco Morales at ringside

In a tremendous fight, Bernabe Concepcion (31-4-1, 17KO) earned a harder than expected split decision victory over very tough Aaron Garcia (10-3-2, 2KO) to win the WBC Continental Americas title on Thursday night at the San Manuel Casino in Highland, California. The 23-year-old Concepcion, a two time WBO featherweight title challenger, who came up short in title challenges against Steven Luevano and Juan Manuel Lopez, demonstrated good speed and power but was unable to knockout his determined challenger and was very fortunate that he was facing an opponent with just a 14% knockout ratio and equally fortunate to be fighting in front of a boisterous Filipino crowd and fighting for the promoter of the event. Former Venezuelan Olympian and now fighting out of Oxnard, CA, Alfonso Blanco won a one-sided six round unanimous decision over junior middleweight Leshon Sims on Thursday night at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. Blanco (7-0, 2 KO’s) came on aggressively from the opening bell, landing at will to the head of Sims. Blanco cut Sims (5-10, 3 KO’s) over the right eye with a punch in the first round. However, Sims, sensing he was down, came on and fought in spurts in the second half of the fight. Sims, from Fontana, CA, landed an occasional hook or cross to the head of Blanco. However, Blanco was able to do enough in the end to win on all judges’ scorecards, 60-54. Sims, who had not fought in almost three years, has now lost his last four fights in a row. (more…)
