Rivalta’s longtime dream to form his own promotional company and provide fans the types of fights he loves to watch is coming true. Today’s Dream Team Boxing Promotions press conference at Bongo’s Cuban Café in the American Airlines Arena revealed a passionate, experienced and tight-knit promotional team shooting for the big time. Rivalta announced the big time 12-fight card starting at 7:00 PM Saturday night at the E. Darwin Fuchs Pavilion in the Miami Dade Fair & Expo Center. Lewkowicz on suspension

Earlier this week, the Panamanian Boxing Commission publicly declared prominent boxing representative Sampson Lewkowicz “Persona Non Grata” and stated that they “are prohibiting Lewkowicz (from having) any kind of relation or contact with this commission as well as with any Panamanian boxer since the relation will not be recognized” for a period of one year, for what they say is allegedly threatening the management of WBA Bantamweight Champion Anselmo Moreno that their contract with Moreno would be terminated by the Commission for going against the interests of their represented boxer if they didn’t persuade the fighter to sign a promotional agreement with Golden Boy Promotions by April 5. Orozco Off April 21st Card

Due to an unexpected food poisoning episode, undefeated jr. welterweight Antonio Orozco (9-0, 6KOs) had to pull out of his scheduled six round bout versus Hensley Strachan on Thursday, April 21st, at the Fight Club OC in Costa Mesa, CA. According to his manager Frank Espinoza, Orozco had a bad batch of tuna which led for him to feel ill on Tuesday evening.

“It’s just a stroke of bad luck. He was ready to go, Antonio had been training very hard for this fight and it’s a shame this happened,” Espinoza said minutes after informing Roy Englebrecht, the promoter of the fight card, of the cancellation. “I am sure he will be better in a couple of days and we’ll work on getting him on a card very soon.” Espinoza mentioned that more than likely Orozco of San Diego, CA, will be back on another Fight Club OC date in the near future.

Latimore targets Williams

Team Latimore

Fresh off of his dominant victory by eight-round decision against journeyman Dennis Sharpe last Saturday night on the Victor Ortiz-Andre Berto card at MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods, IBF #6-rated junior middleweight Deandre “The Bull” Latimore (22-3, 17 KOs) has targeted Paul “The Punisher” Williams for a summer showdown, predicting a career-defining win by knockout for himself. Williams (39-2, 27 KOs), once known as the most avoided man in boxing, reportedly needs a solid opponent for his July 9 return on HBO, in which he will attempt to rebound from his devastating Knockout of the Year loss last November to Sergio Martinez. Latimore says he is more than up to filling that slot if Williams is truly serious.

“I will knockout Paul Williams,” Latimore confidently forecasted. “I take nothing away from him. He’s still one of the best fighters in the world but I’m near my prime and still getting better every day. It’s time for me to break through and beating Williams on HBO is the way to do that. I think me and Williams makes for a great TV fight, one that fans want to see, and it should be easy to make, too. I’m looking for a big opportunity on one of the major networks to showcase the new, complete Deadre Latimore. Williams says he is the most avoided fighter in boxing. Well, I’m not avoiding him, and he needs to put up or shut up. Let’s do it!” (more…)

Klitsschko-Adamek in Wroclaw

By Przemek Garczarczyk

The city of Wroclaw, Poland, with its state of the art, brand new stadium with 44,000 seats will host the September 10 WBC heavyweight championship between Ukrainian titleholder Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 39 KO) and former light heavyweight and cruiserweight world champ, Poland’s Tomasz Adamek (44-1, 28 KO). “K2, the Klitschko brothers promotional company, made their decision – fight will happen in Wroclaw,” said Adamek’s longtime adviser Ziggi Rozalski.

“I’m happy with this venue and I’m sure it will be spectacular fight between me and Vitali, with thousands of his and my supporters cheering every minute of it,” said Adamek.

Wroclaw’s “Stadion Miejski” is managed by US company, SMG Worldwide Entertainment and Convention Venue Management and the Adamek-Klitschko fight will be the first ever event staged in this spectacular venue. SMG manages facilities that host – among other professional league teams – five NFL teams in the US. Although Wroclaw was a favorite to host one of the biggest fights in European history, there was a lot of speculations that fight will happen in even bigger venue, 55,000 seats “Stadion Narodowy” in Warszawa, Poland’s capitol.

How the upsets happened

By Graham Houston

The upsets keep coming and we had two of them on Saturday night, with Orlando Salido hammering Juan Manuel Lopez on Showtime while HBO had Victor Ortiz pounding out a well-earned decision over Andre Berto. Both were rousing fights that will surely figure in the year’s-best roundup.

It is fights such as this that make boxing the great sport that it is, and, for me, no other sport comes close. Salido and Ortiz came into the ring in tremendous condition and seized the moment. Both men had a winner’s mindset: they weren’t going to let anything stop them. (more…)

No further punishment for Gevor

The WBO will impose no additional penalties on Khoren Gevor following the German Boxing Federation’s six month ban following Gevor’s meltdown in the ring following his disqualification loss to WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz. While acknowledging that Gevor’s postfight behavior is inexcusable, the Gevor Camp still insists the DQ by referee Manfred Küchler was unfair.

Manager Peter Schulze has asked the WBO to analyze the fight video. “We believe that after a second evaluation of the video that the WBO will come to the same conclusion as us, that the disqualification was a miscarriage of justice. Khoren did nothing wrong. Because of the DQ he was deprived of the chance to be world champion. Even if he was behind on points, he still would have had the chance of a knockout victory. Therefore, we hope that both the WBO, Robert Stieglitz and SES provides us with a rematch. Regardless of what happened after that, the disqualification was a clear miscarriage of justice. I can’t imagine that Stieglitz wants to remain a world champion by such a gift victory. He should have the desire to defeat his opponents clearly.”
