48-year-old former world champ Hector “Macho” Camacho faces former world title challenger Saul Duran on Friday at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, Florida.
German heavyweight prospect Sebastian Köber (19-1, 13 KOs) will return to the ring on March 22 at the Rostock Stadthalle in Rostock, Germany for the first time since his shocking loss to Zack Page in January. Köber, who still holds the German interim heavyweight title, will defend against Markus Tomala (6-2, 3 KOs) in a rematch of last October’s clash won by Köber via split decision. Köber-Tomala is added to a particularly loaded “Universum Champions Night” card headlined by the big WBA heavyweight eliminator between ex-world champion Ruslan Chagaev and longtime contender Kali Meehan. Also featured are the WBC super featherweight title defense of world champion Vitali Tajbert against Hector Velazquez, the comeback of former WBO heavyweight champion Siarhei Liakhovich against Evans Quinn, a clash between world rated light heavyweights Aleksy Kuziemski and Igor Mikhalkin, the fourth pro fight of amateur world champion Jack Culcay, plus all action flyweight Pal Bedak.
WBC USNBC welterweight champion Favio Medina (22-2-3, 8 KOs) of Sandpoint, Idaho will take on Floridian Damian Frias (16-3, 7 KOs) in a ten rounder on June 3rd. The bout will take place at the Coeur d’Alene Casino in Worley, Idaho.
Canadian middleweight prospect Renan St Juste (21-1-1, 14 KOs) will take on Florida’s Marcus Upshaw (12-4-1, 6 KOs) on March 28th in a scheduled ten-rounder at the Pepsi Colisee in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The bout will open ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights telecast headlined by comebacking former world champion Éric Lucas (39-7-3, 15 KOs) of Canada against former 3-time world title challenger Librado Andrade (28-3, 21 KOs) in a ten round super middleweight clash.
Management of the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, has decided to pull the plug on the eight year run of the popular “Fight Night at the Tank” series. The venue is still open to bringing high profile boxing events to the arena but regularly scheduled shows are on hold.
With 81% of the votes counted, Manny Pacquiao unofficially has 71,476 votes compared to political rival Roy Chiongbian’s 34,331 votes in the race for the Sarangani Province seat in the Philippine House of Congress. Barring something unusual, Pacman should become Congressman-elect Pacquiao shortly. The Chiongbian family has been a political dynasty that has ruled the province for decades.
Undefeated IBF bantamweight world champion Yonnhy Perez (20-0, 14 KOs) held a media workout earlier today at the Santa Fe Springs Community Activity Center. After the training session the press had an opportunity to speak with the world champion about the preparation for his upcoming title defense against top-rated contender Abner Mares (20-0, 13 KOs). The Perez-Mares world title tilt will be the co-main event to Vazquez-Marquez IV: Once and Four All, which will take place Saturday, May 22, at STAPLES Center, Los Angeles, Calif. Former world champion Montell “Ice” Griffin (49-8, 30 KOs) will be looking to cap off his successful career with his 50th professional victory against veteran Ross “The Boss” Thompson (27-14-2, 17 KOs) in the main event of Hitz Boxing’s “Quest for 50″ event on May 29 at the “Venue” in the Horseshoe Casino, in Hammond, Indiana. With the Horseshoe Casino just 20 minutes outside of his birthplace of Chicago, it’ll be a rare opportunity for Griffin to fight in front of his hometown fans – something he rarely did during key moments of his 17 years in professional boxing. WBO Interim bantamweight champion Eric ‘Little Hands of Steel’ Morel arrives in San Antonio Monday night for his Tuesday press conference with three-time world champion Jorce Arce. Morel and Arce collide on “Latin Fury 15″, to be televised on Top Rank Pay-Per-View on June 26 from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
According to court and arrest records, the May 6 arrest of Archie Ray Marquez (10-0, 7 KOs), for domestic violence May 6, was not the first for the undefeated Albuquerque prospect. On Feb. 1, Marquez was arrested for domestic battery at Sandia Casino, when a video caught him choking his wife, Jamie Marquez, in an elevator. The violence has been going on for years, according to Jamie, who was granted a restraining order against her husband. Jamie has temporary custody of her and Archie’s two children; she is also planning to file for divorce. “The fans need to know the truth,” she says, pointing to the case of Edwin Valero, who killed himself after he was arrested for the murder of his wife.
As first reported on Fightnews, Marquez was arrested on May 6 for domestic battery, but was released on bail. The Gary Shaw-promoted fighter was scheduled to fight May 14 on ShoBox but pulled out, citing an injury. Another ShoBox card is in the works co-headlining Marquez for June 25 in Albuquerque.
The city of Los Mochis is buzzing about the big championship card “Puro Sinaloa: Quien es el más Macho”, where three-time world champion Humberto “Zorrita“ Soto will defend his WBC lightweight championship against Ricardo “Pelón“ Domínguez this Saturday, May 15 at the Estadio Centenario. Soto (51-7-2, 32 KOs) of Los Mochis, Sinaloa and Domínguez (31-5-2, 19 KOs) of nearby Culiacan, will battle in the main event of “Top Rank Live” a show promoted by Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer, that will be telecast by Fox Sports Net and Fox Sport Espanol in the United States. Promoter Don King will host a press conference on Wednesday in St. Louis to announce the return of hometown star Cory Spinks to defend his IBF junior middleweight championship against #1-ranked mandatory challenger Cornelius Bundrage on June 12 at the Chaifetz Arena. King will also announce undefeated St. Louis cruiserweight contender Ryan Coyne will appear on the card. St. Louis-based Rumble Time Promotions will be providing additional local fighters to appear on the card.
Although desperately in need of a better phone, WBA super lightweight world title challenger Paulie Malignaggi was not at a loss for words during teleconference in advance of Saturday’s showdown with reigning world champion Amir Khan in New York City.
Former Notre Dame boxing captain Mike Lee will make his professional debut against St. Louis native Keith Debow on May 29th at the UIC Pavilion as part of the first TOP RANK LIVE event in Chicago. The main event will feature an outstanding ten round welterweight showdown between Mexican veterans Jesus “Renuente” Soto-Karass and Gabriel “EL Rey” Martinez. The undercard will feature Salvador Sanchez II, in addition to Chicago’s Omar Henry, Ivan Popoca, Antonio Avila and Polish heavyweight prospect Krzystof Zimnoch. Tickets are $101, $51 and $31. Leading Australian promoter Bill Treacy and future Hall of Famer Ricky Hatton will co-promote world middleweight contenders Daniel Geale (22-1, 13 KOs) and England’s Mathew Macklin (26-2, 18 KOs) in Sydney, NSW, Australia during August in what promises to outstanding matchup between two of the best 160 pounders in the world today. Hatton was in a Sydney, Australia in December last year and had talks with Treacy regarding promotions featuring Australian and English boxers. “Ricky Hatton has been a pleasure to work with.” said Treacy.” We are happy that Daniel Geale will clash with Mathew Macklin. Both Geale and Macklin have shown they deserve to there world ratings and both have there sights set on a shot at the IBF middleweight championship currently held by Sebastian Sylvester (33-3, 16 KOs).” (more…)
Super middleweight Scott “Cujo” Sigmon pounded out a hard fought ten round unanimous decision victory over experienced veteran Carlton “Head Banga” Holland on Saturday in front of a packed house at Jefferson Forest High School in Forest, VA. “He was a wily veteran” said Sigmon. “I was talking to him during the fight and told him that I knew he wanted to quit but he kept coming.” Official scores were 99-91, 98-92, 98-92. With the win Sigmon goes to 9-2, with 3 KOs. Holland’s record falls to 18-13, with 9 KOs. (more…)
Middleweight contender Peter “The Pride of Providence” Manfredo Jr. has heard it all from Chicago’s Angel “Toro” Hernandez in the press leading up to their vacant IBO Middleweight Title showdown on Saturday, May 22nd at the Mohegan Sun Casino in and it doesn’t faze him.
“I’m glad that he’s excited and coming here to win. I expect nothing less. It’s a great fight for the fans and I knew when I agreed to fight Angel that it would be a war. Universum Box-Promotion won today’s purse bid in Budapest to promote the WBO cruiserweight eliminator between WBO #2 rated Universum boxer Alexander Alekseev against #1 Denis Lebedev to become the mandatory challenger for current champion Marco Huck. “We’ll know the place and time of the fight in the next few days,” said Universum VP Dietmar Poszwa. “We’re delighted that this high quality fight will take place in Germany on a “Universum Champions Night.” Alexander can again box for a title. His desired opponent is and will remain Marco Huck. Now it’s up to him to win this eliminator and for Marco to remain champion and want to face his mandatory challenger.”
WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, who is running for congress in his native Philippines, cast his vote at 8:23AM this morning. “It’s judgment day,” said Pacman who expressed confidence that he would beat political rival Roy Chiongbian, the brother of the outgoing incumbent Erwin Chiongbian. Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, in the Philippines in support of Manny, said Pacman would be back in the ring in November “win or lose.”

Australian bantamweight champion Fred “The General” Mundraby (10-0-1, 5 KOs) kept his unbeaten record when referee Steve Marshal crowned him the winner over Matt Meredith (3-8-1, 1 KO) at :59 of round one at the Hilton Hotel, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on Saturday. Mundraby had previously defeated Meredith in 2007 when he scored six round technical decision for the Queensland title. Mundraby scored his best win in 2009 when he stopped highly regarded Filipino bantamweight Robert Lerio in six rounds to win the national championship. (more…)

His journey has taken him from the most remote and desolate tip of Northern Siberia to the shores the United States. Junior Welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov (15-0, 10 KOs) hails from Berezovo, an island village of 7,000 people, surrounded by icy water, oil rigs and with frigid temperatures falling as low as -58 F. As a teenager, Ruslan decided against a life working on the oil rigs and was bent on making a name for himself. He thus laced up the boxing gloves and his talent did the rest. He racked up an exceptional 170-10 amateur record, winning the European Junior and Senior Championships as well as countless tournaments, feats that turned him into a hero in his hometown and region. As a pro, Provodnikov has fought five times in the United States. Ruslan relishes comparisons made by the media between himself and Kostya Tszyu, also from Siberia: “A great honor which I hope to earn by following his footsteps,” says Ruslan. (more…)

“The Contender” Season two contestant and former NABA lightweight titlist, Michael “Cold Blood” Clark (40-5-1, 18 KOs) dominated former USBA title holder Jason “School Boy” Pires (22-4-1, 9 KOs) and captured not only the unanimous decision but his 40th professional victory in an oddly contracted nine round main event on Friday night at the Twin River Events Center in Lincoln, RI. Scores of the bout were 90-80 twice and 89-81 in favor of Clark. The eight bout fight card was promoted by Classic Entertainment and Sports. “The Weight Is Over” was the name given to the Paul Williams vs. Kermit Cintron 154 pound matchup, but at the end of the evening, dissatisfied fans were still waiting to see a fight, as the fight was called off just seconds into the fourth round when both fighters got tangled.
Both fighters tumbled and Cintron, who tumbled out of the ring, onto a table and finally fell all the way to the ground, was neither unable nor unwilling to continue . . . click here for more
