Former world champion Manuel Medina will hope to add another title to his illustrious career as he faces Leonardo Resendiz for the NABA Super Featherweight title tonight at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, CA.

The bout headlines a six bout "Duel in the Desert" card, presented by Mark Liddy Productions.

Medina, (63-14, 29 KO's) from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, is a five-time world champion who is rebounding from technical knockout loss to Scott Harrison in November.

A career that has spanned almost 20 years, Medina has faced numerous champions, contenders, and prospects. An all-action fighter, Medina has consistently stayed between the Featherweight and Super Featherweight divisions throughout his career.

Medina won his first world title in 1991 when he defeated Troy Dorsey for the IBF Featherweight title in Los Angeles. His last world title he has won was the WBO Featherweight title, when he defeated Scott Harrison by split decision last July.

Medina has defeated talented fighters in Tom Johnson, Alejandro "Cobrita" Gonzalez, Victor Polo, Hector Lizarraga, and Frank Toledo. Medina has lost to Naseem Hamed, Johnson, Paul Ingle, Luisito Espinoza, Derrick Gainer, and Johnny Tapia.

Resendiz, (10-6, 6 KO's) from Mexico City, DF, Mexico, has won his two bouts to subpar competition.

Resendiz' lost his last three bouts to Miguel Angel Huerta, Miguel Angel Munguia, and Genaro Trazancos. Resendiz does have the WBC Fecarbox Super Featherweight title.

In the co-feature, Adam Carrera will take on Ruben Estanislao in a 12 round bout for the WBC Fecarbox Super Bantamweight title.

Carrera, (14-1, 6 KO's) from Cathedral City, CA, is coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory over Ray Martinez in April. Carrera has won his last four bouts in a row since his first round knockout to Angel Mata, which he avenged in his next bout.

This will be Carrera's third bout in 2004 and first fight for any title. He has fought in Las Vegas or in the Southern California desert.

Estanislao, (16-7-2, 3 KO's) from La Merced, DF, Mexico, is coming off a close split decision victory over Juan Ruiz last month in Las Vegas.

It was Estanislao's first victory since October of 2002. Estanislao has lost to good fighters in Ricardo Castillo, Adrian Valdez, Jorge Solis, Cristobal Cruz, and world ranked Orlando Salido.

Undefeated Melinda Cooper will take on Johanna Pena Alvarez in a six round Super Flyweight bout.

Cooper, (11-0, 7 KO's) from Las Vegas, NV, is coming off an impressive second round technical knockout over Lina Ramirez in May.

Cooper is a talented fighter, who does not represent the 19 years of age she has inside the ring. This will be Cooper's third bout of 2004.

Alvarez, (15-2-2, 10 KO's) from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is coming off a draw against Delia Gonzalez in May in El Paso.

In January, Alvarez lost a 10 round unanimous decision to champion Regina Halmich for the WIBF Flyweight title. Alvarez' other draw was to popular Elena Reid.

Other fighters on the card that are scheduled to fight are Featherweight Tomas Barragan, Heavyweight Omran Awadi, Lightweight Luis Cervantes, and Super Flyweight Adrian Aleman. Cervantes and Aleman are making their professional debuts.

Tickets are on sale for $150, $80, $45, and $30. Doors to the show are to open at 6PM, with first bell scheduled for 7PM. To purchase tickets, call (760) 202-2600. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Box office from 9AM to 6 PM.
