Onikeke stops Sorkitti! May 14, 2007 By Ray Wheatley -- World of Boxing
Onikeke won the Commonwealth welterweight title in 2004 by winning a twelve round decision over Hassan Matumla. He is trained and managed by Murray Thompson who will feature him on televised Fox show on July 27. Sorkitti had previously lost in Australia to new WBO interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis in nine rounds. Australian welterweight champion Eddie Delic (12-7-2) edged Paul Tapley (11-10-1) in ten action rounds. Scores Malcolm Bulner 96-94, Bryan Membrey 97-93 and Jim Slatter 98-92. Former OPBF middleweight champion Pradeep Singh (13-0-1) was lucky to keep his unbeaten record as he was awarded a eight round draw against underdog William Hadlow (4-7-4). Hadlow was aggressive in all rounds and Singh was in trouble on a few occassions. At the conclusion judges scores were Malcolm Bulner 77-76 (Singh) Bryan Membrey and Jim Slatter 77-75 (Hadlow). Welterweight prospect Heath Ellis (5-0) looked good in outpointing tough Queenslander Jim Savage (9-7) over six rounds. The aggressive Savage came to fight but Eliis scored with accurate left rips and hooks to keep him in front on all judges cards. 58-57, 58-57 and 58-56. Ellis is the nephew of former IBF 130 pound champion Lester Ellis who was at ringside. Heath is manaed by his father Neil Ellis and trained by Greg Grogan. Promoter Murray Thompson.
