Geale tops Dawson for IBO title!

Daniel Geale (18-0,12 KOs) was impressive in scoring a one sided twelve round points decision over world rated WBA#13,WBO#9 Daniel Dawson (29-1, 20 KOs) to capture the vacant IBO middleweight crown at the Wests Campbelltown Leagues Club at Leumeah, NSW, Australia Friday.

Round one was a feel 'em out round but Geale stepped up a gear in round two to dominate his more experienced opponent. In round five Geale suffered eye cut over left eye. Doctor Lou Lewis inspected and ruled OK to continue. Dawson was cautioned by the referee Gary Dean in round six for use of the head. Both boxers were rocked by accurate head shots in round seven and Geale came back to have Dawson in trouble in round eight. Geale and Dawson were cautioned for infringements in round ten.

Round eleven had Dawson trying hard to score a knockout and in round twelve Geale had his opponent out on his feet at the bell. Scores Steve Marshall 119-109, Brad Griffith 120-110 and Steve Scott 120-110 all for Geale.

Former three time world champion Jeff Fenech was in Geale’s corner and Craig Christian who trains WBA featherweight champion Chris John was in Dawson’s corner. The winner of the Contender series Sakio Bika congratulated Geale along with world rated middleweight Sam Soliman. Former IBF flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan was also in attendance.

Mathew Paulley (15-5-4, 7 KOs) won the Australian welterweight title when he was awarded technical decision over Eddie Delic (13-8-2, 2 KOs) when the fight was stopped at the conclusion of round seven because of severe eye cut suffered by Paulley due to accidental head clash. Scores 69-66, 69-64 and 69-64. Southpaw Paulley boxed skilfully to outbox Delec in most of the rounds. Paulley suffered a cut in round three and also in round seven.

Light middleweight King Davidson (3-0) scored a four round stoppage over Aussie 154 pound champion Frank Loporto (6-3-1) of a scheduled six. The fight was stopped at 1 minute 55 seconds of round four. Scores 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27.

Classy Solomon Egberime (15-2) won a clear six round decision over Samuel Colomban (6-1) of light middleweight bout. Scores 60-54, 58-56 and 58-56.

Former amateur star Steve Casserley (1-0) delivered powerfull accurate head and body shots to stop Arnel Balicuatro (0-7) at 2 minutes 3 seconds of round four in a light middleweight bout. The Filippino was out on his feet. Casserley boxed aggressively in all contested rounds.

Lightweight Filippino Jun Parderma (9-8) outscored Eric Anaba (2-0) of all action four. Scores 40-35,40-35 and 40-34.
