Medley stops Sultan! March 8, 2008 By Ray Wheatley -- World of Boxing
Former world rated welterweight Rob Medley (19-2,13KO’s) was impressive in stopping Dondon Sultan (15-10-2.7KO’s) of the Philippines at the conclusion of round four with the IBF Australasian and IBO Intercontinental title up for grabs at the Cronulla Leagues club, Sydney, NSW, Australia on Friday. The six foot Medley, 26 years, jumped on the importation in round one as he scored with accurate head and body shots that had Sultan on unsteady legs throughout the contest. Round four had Sultan staggered by left hooks and right hands to the head and he was out on his feet as the bell sounded. The Filipino’s corner retired Sultan during the interval. Medley said, “I want to thank my manager Bill Treacy and Garrie Franciso for their support.” Medley's only loss came in 2007 when he dropped a twelve round decision to South African Isaac Hlatswayo in a IBO 147 pound title bout. Sultan holds a knockout in round one over former world amateur champion Anton Solopov. Former Australian jnr middleweight champion Ryan Waters (10-2-1) scored a four round knockout over Payakchai Sithparadorn (0-3) in a scheduled six round bout. The Thai boxer was dropped in round three and round four from power body shots. Referee Les Fear counted out the visitor at 40 seconds of round four. Australian middleweight champion Junior Talipeau (10-0) dropped Daniel Pawsey (4-2) in round three and another barrage in round four had him staggering and referee Charlie Lucas saved him from further punishment as he crowned Talipeau. Former Australian welterweight champion Solomon Egberime (16-2) outscored Jun Paderma (9-9-1) over six action rounds. Egeberime delivered hard combinations to the head and body of his shorter opponent but never had him in trouble at any stage of the bout. Paderma scored with good body shots. Egberime is from Nigeria originally but has been based in Australia for several years. He won the Australian welterweight title in 2002 by defeating Eddie Delic. Paderma is originally from the Philippines but has been based in Australia for several months. Promoter Bill Treacy
